I love watching all the live shows on the DIS DVC and they are so informative.
However it is very soul destroying at times when discussions occur about special events, whether this be simply moonlight magic or DVC arranged events such as TOW July 4th party.
Let me explain - events that are advertised say 1-7 months out to me are geared much more to members living in immediate vicinity or a US state. Apart from the ability to get a room for a weeks stay (minimum required for a trip from UK) there is also the ability to arrange a holiday period as well.
If DVC were true to all their members they would arrange events that would be possible for all members to attend I do feel we are missing out on some of the DVC benefits.
Even the moonlight magic events are not published soon enough to allow holidays to be booked and rooms to be arranged.
I think what I am trying to say here is maybe the discussions on the shows could take into account the international DVC members and how the events effect them.

I don't think your feelings are exclusive to UK or other international DVC members. We have the same problems arranging time off from work and booking rooms that you do. We book our home resort 11 months out, and if there turns out to be a special DVC event during that time, we'll hope to get tickets for it (far from a done deal). But based on history, we don't expect DVC to tell us before we book that they're having an event, it's just luck of the draw.

The special events have much more to do with marketing & selling DVC than with making members happy.

ETA I hope I don’t sound unsympathetic - quite the opposite, we feel the same as you!

CarolynFH - thanks for your thoughts and no you do not sound unsympathetic I fully understand where you are coming from.
I understand all that you are saying, i suppose my main point is that if the events were notified to members at an earlier date then all members would be given a chance to attend. At the moment it seems that most events are attended by more local people and members who have lots of points and have a lot of vacations at WDW during the year.

It’s like attending a DVC mixer on DCL. We did a back to back on the magic - Med & Western. Ship was full of Canucks, Brits & Europeans, all of whom were excluded from winning the $200 on-board credit at the DVC presentation.

I’m sure it’s some sort of legal technicality (internationals can never win the OBC). But for real. OPTICS. Ship full of international DVC members & they still decide to go with that prize? Made us feel inferior. Disney used to care about brand. Not so much anymore :sad2:
