Hi

I am on a wheat, gluten and diary free diet. Over here in the UK I find restaurants still have many things I can eat and a good selection in the supermarkets. I just wondered how well Orlando has developed it's free from range. Has anyone had this problem? Do they have supermarket ranges? How clued up are the restaurants?

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

My DS is on a similar diet to yours. On our first trip in 2005 we found the level of knowledge about special diets to be far better than that we have experienced in the UK.

If your actually going to eat at Disney a good website to look at is: allearsnet.com. Also you can e-mail Barbara Bennett at Disney on brenda.bennett@disney.com. She can advise on what is available in the disney restaurants and other food outlets.

As far as I can remember the supermarkets had a similar amount of gluten/dairy free foods as you found in the uk, albeit some of the brands were different.

You could also visit Chamberlins Health Food Store, who have a number of stores in the Orlando area (http://www.chamberlins.com/)

At least as good for "non-dairy" - they are very hot on soya alternatives over there. You SHOULDN'T have a problem getting soya milk instead of regular at most mainstream restaurants/starbicks etc either.

Im dairy intolerant, publix have a good selection of health foods, you will have no problem in obtaining soya milk, 2litre cartons, loads cheaper than here, sold both in publix and walmart, soya cheese slices, herbal and rooibus tea also sold in publix. We have eaten at liberty tree tavern resturant, magic kingdom. Chef came out to personally talk to me and cooked my meal dairy free. :woohoo:

We will be visiting Orlando for the 5th time in August. Our 8 year old daughter (MIlly) has an intolerance to gluten. We have found all the Disney hotels and restaurants to be tremendous when catering for Milly. Just make sure that you book in advance and let them know about the dietary requirements. The chef will always come to see you when you arrive at the restaurant. They have as standard at most Disney restaurants gluten free rolls, pizzas and pasta. If there is nothing on the menu the chef will gladly cook something from scratch if at all possible. We also contacted Brenda and found her to be extremely helpful. On our last visit Brenda arranged for a gluten free birthday cake to be made and delivered to a restaurant of our choice. Other parks seemed to be less knowledgeable particularly Busch Gardens who were APPALLING. Mythonos at I of Adventure was another good place to eat with the chef being superb. We have already booked all our ADR's for August. If you would like any more questions answered please let me know.
Best Wishes
