Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued - Part 3

There is the one that is expected to veer off to the east and a new one just coming off the coast down there. Hasn't been really mentioned except on one site I was checking. It isn't really worth mentioning at this point to most, I guess, and it is too early to tell if it will develop into anything or not. Not all do.

Well.... i don't mind, except i am having flashbacks of 30-40 ft waves, in december, and getting sick and not enjoying the last few days... :( What an awful feeling..

Yes, this is my concern too. I know Disney will "take care" of us. However, they can't make the seas calm, and if I'm puking for 5 days straight, along with my mom who surely be beside me even sicker :lmao: ), then it won't matter how well we are cared for, we'll still be miserable!

Oh please oh please....go away storm. I also have a huge fear of being stuck on the ship an extra day or being diverted hours away to get off the ship. I have ADR's at WDW after all, I can't miss those or I'll never get them back. :rotfl:

Exactly. Last cruise our cabin was on Deck 5 forward.. it was awful.. doors were slamming, ugh.. i don't even want to think of it..
We spent the ENTIRE day at sea in the lounge on Deck 3 midship (Promanade?) just sitting there sipping soda and eating crackers... since that is where we felt the least movement.
The water in the pools looked insane!! Venturing out to deck 9 or 10 was an adventure to say the least. However, when seas slightly calmed down, i took all my stuff and slept outside on deck 9 near the Cove Cafe.. i just needed fresh air.. but then i was so tired and cranky from all the meds i took to feel better..
I will see if i can post some pics of the Cozumel stop we had..

We had one of those 3 years ago! It was only our last night. They had to close the upper decks due to high winds.

Here are some pics of when we were in Cozumel.. This was Jan.2, 2008.

Check out all the water in the streets.. That was all from the huge waves that were crashing over the wall...

See my dd's marilyn monroe pic.. LOL

I only let go of my dd's hand long enough to snap this pic, it was so windy and there is no railing, so i was afraid of it blowing her!! Seriously, it was a scary walk back to the ship! LOL

And this was one of the calmer times.. LOL

That's how PC looked the morning we made port! The rain was horizontal! Ours was a Dec. cruise also. Last years Sept. cruise was smooth as silk.

Gustav huh?
Well, this the the 4th time we've cruised in September. Always had good weather. Odds were sure to catch up.
Always felt good about there being "no hurricanes", but this time I just did not feel it.

After looking at weather.com, weather.gov. accuweather.com and weatherunderground.com, it seems that the storm will probably head into the gulf.
Right now the direction seems to NW which would cause it to go over the western part Cuba. However, it could track a little more west as it slows down which could put it on a course over the Yucatan.

You are right Laxmom, there are two other disturbances. One is already in the mid-atlantic but shows signs of just staying there before heading north.
But, there is a storm off the coast of Africa that may prove to be interresting before the next two weeks are over.

As a wise man once said.....
The only difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude!

That's what I found also. The new disturbance probably won't effect this cruise. Gustav has been hanging around down there when Fay was forming down there.

Supposed to be another update at 8pm.

Did anyone see the Magic in the Panama Canal this am? I tuned in at work just in time! They had a storm so they are delayed and haven't hit the last lock yet.

Yup, i have had the live cam on since 4pm eastern time.. LOL Waiting patiently to see her!

The light blue line on the map is from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the other lines are other models. You can see that the NHC is the closest to us so hopefully it will fall in line with the other southern lines and we will be good to go!!! I've been slightly obsessed- 1st cruise and all- don't know if anyone is going to be seasick so I've been checking quite often to see where this naughty boy goes!

yup.....posted a link to a slideshow I made of it for those that missed it

Is there any chance that this storm could prevent the Magic from getting back to Port Canaveral on time?

I have my Bonine, but I think I might have to get some ginger pills. Do nausea pills like Phenergan help with seasickness?

Wasn't it so cool to think that we will be on that ship one week from today!? It didn't really hit me until I saw it. Just wow! I think I may have to do a Panama Canal cruise someday!

My hubby tells me we have about an 80% chance of Gustav effecting castaway cay day #1.
He is as obsessed with his studies of the weather as I am with all things Disney, so I know he is quite a good source.
Still, I don't care. I will be happy to get on that ship, and have a good time, wherever we wind up!!
AND: We get 2 shots at castaway cay!
So, I am happy.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

The Panama Canal cruise was awesome!!! You should definitely try to do it!

You guys have got me started- looking at the Canal. My kids and I are glued to the screen... my dh thinks we are nuts! So neat for them to see the ship dropping down when it updates and the water goes down. Can't wait to see our future home!

Hi everyone,

I am hoping that someone here can send me in the right direction. You all seem to be such a great source of information about the cruises but I don't know if this particular item has ever been addressed.

I have applied for a job with the state that requires a proctored test. The test is offered on 9/3. They will NOT change the date for anyone for any reason. We are in Nassau that day!pirate: I just assumed I was out of the running for the job.

This morning (after a quest through Tallahassee last week) I got a call from the local office. The lady I spoke to said that they have had other people test from remote locations but they are in other "official" places like the police dept. or other federal or state offices where that applicant happens to be. She said that they would indeed be able to fax a test to the ship as long as an official of the ship would be willing to administer the test and then return it to them. Apparently the test is timed.

My question to you is.....where do I start? I know if I call the main number for reservations they probably won't be able to tell me anything. I thought I'd try to cut out some of the transfer from dept. to dept. on Disney's side of things and get right to the people who can actually answer this question. Any ideas of who that would be?

I'm thinking it would be pretty cool to say that I passed the first part of my job interview while on a Disney cruise!

In our paperwork there is a number for the ship that states 1.888.322.8732 that states that SHIP PHONE NUMBER.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

The Varnums of Orlando

We are working our way up. We are at 5 day this trip and will probably book a 7 day on board! I'll get there some day!

I sure hope a huge cargo ship doesn't block our view after all this!!
