Speaking of the Titanic - Did you like the movie?

I believe it was David Letterman who said that the reason the scene where Jack was doing the sketch of the very nude Rose was to "keep the guys watching the movie awake until the boat started sinking":p

i love this movie so much. i like everything about it. the real reason i went to see it like four times at the theatre at home was for leo. but really come on that was so five years ago. now i look at him and i am like WHOA!! he sure isnt what i used to think he was. hehe. i did love this movie i need to watch it again.

I've been a Titanic "buff" for most of my life and I loved it. I think James Cameron did an outstanding job with the storytelling of the sinking. The love story was just secondary. (But I enjoyed it, too).

I liked it - but I didn't cry:(
I went and saw it a second time - I tried to cry, but couldn't do it:(
I saw it again on video - I told myself "okay I'm going to cry, everybody else crys, what am I heartless or something" - I still didn't cry:mad:

So, in the end, I decided I like the movie - but I don't find it an emotional overload as do some of my friends.

When I first saw it, right when it opened, I didn't know any of the plot or anything, so I really enjoyed it... I didn't know one would die, or whatever, so it was nice to watch.

Now its just a cheesy, predictable love story hidden within a historical drama. All in all, its certainlny not the worst movie out there, and I think James Cameron did well with it. I have had an itching to see it again, perhaps i will rent it soon! =)

I like it but it isn't one of my favorites. I thought that the visuals were stunning and also that all of the acting was pretty good considering how trite the romance was.

I did tear up too. What got to me was the mother reading to the children scene as already mentioned and the dead mother holding her baby. It made me realize that so many people really did die in such a terrifying way and that fact hitting home seemed so terribly sad to me. I definitely couldn't bring myself to laugh with that in mind.

I cried my eyes out at the two back to back scenes where the older couple is holding each other in bed while the water rushes in
That was based on the true story of Isador and Ida Strauss. It's a shame that the rest of their scenes ended up on the cuting room floor. I guess Cameron didn't want a real love story overshadowing his Hollywood love story. From another website...

Ida Strauss, wife of Isidor Strauss (founder of Macy's department store), turned back to be with her husband after entering a lifeboat. She ignored others as they tried to persuade her to go, and stayed with her husband. Sadly, Isidor Stauss and his wife both died during the sinking. Mr. Strauss's body was recovered, however, Mrs. Strauss's was not. Isidor and Ida Strauss are memorialized with a monument on which is inscribed: "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it."

I really liked the movie and have been a Titanic buff for many years before that ( I got the bug from a friend). I wish they hadn't cut some of the scenes they did such as the S.S. Californian seeing the distress rockets and ignoring them because the Captain had gone to bed for the night. The fact that this ship could have saved most of the people on the Titanic, and didn't, makes it even more of a tragedy.

DH and I were the only ones laughing and cheering when Leo slipped under!

We were sitting behind some high school girls who were either crying or sighing the entire movie. We sure had fun imitating them!:teeth:

And I thought I was the only one who did that during the movie - :D

Another thing I loved about the Titanic that I remembered after posting to this thread: Kathy Bates as Molly Brown. She stole every scene she was in. :)

Yup, I loved it! Saw it twice in the theater and that was tough because I had a 2 year old at home! LOL! I still like it alot. But I haven't watched the end in years.

When it first came out, I had absolutely no desire to see it.

Just recently, DS9 worked on a project at school where they learned about the Titanic. All the kids were assigned as passengers on the ship. They had to go for a couple of days not knowing whether they survived or not. The suspense for them was very hard. Then on the day they found out their fate, the teacher played the portion of the movie where the ship broke in two and started to sink.

I was curious as to what DS was going to see in school, so I rented it. Surprisingly, I liked it alot.

For those of you who liked this movie or are interested in the Titanic, I'd encourage you to watch the 1953 version. I cry every time I see it. I didn't cry at the James Cameron version. The special effects obviously aren't as good in the older version, but the acting was very special. I love Clifton Webb!

I loved the history, scenery and effects. The love story wasn't my favorite though.

My parents didn't like it because it focused too much on this one particular couple, instead of everyone affected by the tragedy. I don't think they liked the characters either.

However, I can have no say...I've never seen it...and am probably the only 16-year old who hasn't (back in the day, even 8-year olds saw it, but my parents "wouldn't let me" and I was older than those girls. Kinda made me upset that I was treated younger than those girls...but now I don't have any desire to see it).

My mom said now, that she didn't want me to see it because it was "too sad." Maybe she thought I, as a young kid, couldn't handle it...?? She didn't like it....!! Oh well...somethings you'll never understand about your parents...
