I have mixed feelings about the movie. I'd give it an A for stunning imagery and some very fine acting on the part of Kate Winslett, who never disappoints. I'd give it a D for the "Love Boat" sinks plotline, so trite and obvious.
For ship sinking tragedies, I much prefer The Poseidan Adventure.
I'm with Snoopy - loved the visual effects. Very glad I went to it at the theatre to see it. The plot was a B romance at best, I laughed at the gym room scene when he asks if she loves him. In contrast I think the minor characters had the best scenes. The woman tucking her children into bed was very moving.
By the time I finally saw The Titanic, I had heard so much about it that I was very disappointed. Everyone raved and raved and I just thought it was so-so.
Loved it when I first saw it at the theater, but it doesn't seem to be "aging" well. The plot is almost laughable now. We found ourselves wishing she'd push Jack off the iceberg at the end.
Titanic is one of my very favorite movies. I love the imagery and symbolism, and Kate Winslet was fantastic. I cried my eyes out at the two back to back scenes where the older couple is holding each other in bed while the water rushes in and the mom tucks her children into bed. Those moved me much more than the death of Jack. I also loved the spunk of the older lady who played Rose as an elderly woman. I'll even admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the romance plot--I thought it added something to the story that was very special.
