speaking of kitchen remodeling, anyone have a viking range? worth the money?

I used to work in a kitchen with a flat top- I would use a girl brick with water while it was still warm. Followed by lemon juice and the brick, also while it was still warm. That thing was spotless despite getting a thorough workout on a daily basis.

thanks, I may try this, the razor blade is a pain to manipulate.... And I have a grill brick.......

I have never had a Viking stove, but they never seem to be very highly rated by Consumer Reports. I would suggest you check them out. Don't buy more stove than you need.

Ooh wasn't on the boards a year ago so glad someone revived this-I am planning my "dream house for when I win the lottery" around my kitchen! I currently have a smooth top I HATE-miss my gas stove from my previous house!
However-sprinkle baking soda on the cool top then add vinegar, let it bubble for a few minutes and wipe off-gets nearly everything off-even cooked on gunk-with little effort.

I go to the appliance/hardware stores just to look at the stoves...I cook alot from scratch so when we are ready to replace my stove I know exactly what I want :rotfl:

I have a 36 inch Bertazzoni in Ferrari Red (the stove is actually painted in the same factory that the car is painted). We love it, but I don't think the Berta comes with a double oven. Ours has a griddle, too, but we hardly ever use it. We do use the wok attachment a lot, which I didn't buy, but they threw it in for free...so glad they did! We bought ours when Berta was running a 'buy the stove, get the exhaust fan for free'. Saved us about $1k.

I do think, if it's in your budget, a high-end 'professional' stove is worth it in the long run. Our stove is very solidly built and the best thing IMO is that it is very simply made.. No electronics to burn out every few years, etc. Were something to go wrong with it, my husband could fix it. It's built to be a work horse. AND, it's beautiful.

We paid what we did for our stove because this is my 'dream' kitchen. DH is doing most of the work (tiling, plumbing, cabinet making, etc.), thus saving us $$$$$$$, which made it possible for me to get the appliances of my dreams...it's just taking us a few years longer than hiring outside people :rotfl:.

We built our house last year. We were planning on a Wolf or Viking, but found American Range. We love it. Cleans up to spotless. 6 open burners. Save enough money in the budget from getting a cheaper stove that we were able to upgrade a few other things. Win, win.

This post was over a year old and someone posted to it and it became active again, but it makes me smile. My brother was Senior VP of Marketing for Viking for many years, until he died suddenly in 2011. He adored everything about that company. They were really nice people.

Viking was bought a couple of years ago so I don't know if there have been any negative changes since. Their headquarters are still in Greenwood.
