OMG.. I HAD to share this one. I was just talking with some girls in the office about DisneyWorld and I said "Boy, I can't WAIT till we leave to go to DisneyWorld.. I'm counting the days!"

This girl walks in our office and says...

Ready???...



"DisneyWorld? Is that like DisneyLand? I didn't know there was a Disney World. Are you sure you aren't going to Disney LAND?"

(shaking my head......)

Yes, that is true, not everyone loves Disney as much as we do! However, even people who don't like Mickey Mouse or don't even know who Walt Disney is know that WDW exists!!! It's what put Orlando on the map!!

I will tell you whats sad.......on November 9th waiting in line for splash mountain my wife and I were talking about the election and the couple ahead of us asked who won!!! we told them Bush and they said oh brother another 8 years of him. Come on.....first you shoulf know who won by the 9th and 8 years??? But I bet they knew all about Disney!!!

For people who aren't interested in the whole theme park experience or people who just don't travel all that much, they may not know that WDW exists, although I will say that I think everyone knows what and where DisneyLAND is. That's the park that people associate with Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney. If they've never cared to go to Florida, they may not realize there is this huge conglomeration of all things Disney down here.

Some people seriously just don't take notice of these things. Doesn't make them stupid or anything -- their focus is just somewhere else.

I agree. I am always flabbergasted when people don't think EPCOT is part of WDW, etc. But I have to remember to tell myself that they probably have other interests that which if I tried to speak about, I would probably come off sounding ignorant. However, those who know nothing about WDW (and that may have never been there) but try to act like they know everything about it and will actually argue various points and refuse to hear the reality...well, those are the type that I feel bad for.

I just think people have assigned their own names to certain parks. Maybe the girl in the OP, in her mind, had assumed that Disney World is really called DisneyLand. For the many times we have taken my mother with us on trips to WDW, she STILL refers to the Magic Kingdom as DisneyWorld. In her mind, there is Epcot, Animal Kingdom, MGM, and DisneyWorld. Go figure! We just stopped fighting it...

That's an easy one to figure out, though, because for the first several years of Walt Disney World, all there was was the Magic Kingdom. So, people used "Walt Disney World" and "Magic Kingdom" interchangeably to describe the Florida property. Once Epcot was built, people kept calling the first park "Walt Disney World" and then would call the second park Epcot. If both MK and Epcot had been built at the same time, I don't think the confusion would be there. People would have better understood that MK and Epcot were both parts of WDW.

That's my theory, anyway!!

i once heard someone saying that they had to get in their car and drive 30 minutes to go on the spideman ride at MGM, then they were gonna hit tower of terror right after that, then to emeril's for dinner. when i tried to explain it to them that the park that's 1/2 hr away was Universal and ToT was at MGM, the dad was convinced i didn't know what i was talking about.

I'm always surprised at how unaware some people are of things - it makes you wonder where they've been their whole lives. Do they not read newspapers, magazines, or even watch TV.

Once I was on a business trip with a gal who was born and raised in this country and as we were landing in Boston she asked me "Is Boston a State?". I soon learned why she may not have known, every business trip I took where she joined me all she wanted to do was go to the mall. Never wanted to tour any sites or learn more about the area we were on.

But, I did go on a business trip to Orlando with this same person and we spent an afternoon at WDW so at least she knows where that is. I wonder if she thinks WDW is a state?

My parents are the same way. Our first trip there was in 1977. To them, MK will always be "Disneyworld".

When my son was 9, I hired a third grade teacher from his school to tutor him in reading and writing. He had a report to do for history on WWII. So we thought it would be a good idea to have her check his report. Well, she turned to me and asked "Did we fight the Japanese in WWII?". After she left, my son turned to me and asked "So, mom, do you still think I need a tutor?". I said nope, but she sure needs a history tutor.

I would think I would be able to figure out the difference after finding out my hand stamp and park hopper did not get me in to ride on the Spiderman Ride.
