i just read a post about driving down the i75 and hotels

anyone go down the 95?

i'm not looking to do the marathon drive we did in 06 - we're figuring about 6-8 hours a day not the 10-12 we did before.

assuming we'll cross the border at Niagara Falls around 8am.

where have you stopped before and what hotels did you stay in.

we were thinking the Red Roof Inn at Washington PA at 410km from our house (which actually isn't that far now that i'm typing it out.

Red Roof at Savannah for the second night would be about 900km from Washington

which would leave 415km to AK the 3rd night.

we're planning a spring trip so snow isn't an issue and will have a 3 year old and (hopefully) an infant around 6 months or so.

what have you guys done?

That sounds like a good plan, we have driven to Florida from Hamilton 2 times last year the first time we drove there we took the I-75 and we stopped off in Forsyth Georgia for the night then we drove to Florida, on our second trip we went down the 95 way and we stopped off in West Virginia for the night then drove to Florida. We liked taking the 75 much better i just found it to have more rest stops and more hotels if we got tired and it was a straight drive to Florida and hardly and road changes.

We have driven to WDW from Hamilton many times and take the QEW-405-190-290-90-79-19-77-26-95-I4 route. We take 2.5 days to drive down. I drive from Hamilton to Beckley WV the first day and stay at the Hampton Inn (exit 44) which is about 8 hours and 830 km. The next day we drive to Brunswick GA and stay again at a Hampton Inn (exit 36A) which is about 8 hours and 842 km and then the last day we drive to WDW which is about 3.5 hours and 230 km.

I prefer to do the drive this way so that we arrive at WDW around lunchtime on day 3 - this way you sorta have a choice of rooms. This past trip we stayed at POR and when we arrived I was able to request Magnolia Terrace and got a fantastic room on the first floor close to the parking lot and it worked out great (they had originally placed me on the 2nd floor of the AB36 building with no elevators). On a previous trip to POP Century they had placed us in a connecting room (not needed) facing the pool (too noisy)...because we arrived around lunchtime, I was able to switch to another room that was not a connecting room and was in a quieter location.

we stayed at Beckley the last time we went down - nice hotel off the highway - pulled off just as a huge storm was hitting (found out in the morning it was a tornado that hit the town about 30 minutes north - where we were going to stop but pushed through because Cassandra was sleeping)

it was a long trip mostly because we stopped a lot having Cassandra - i don't think that is a good place for us until she's older and we don't have to stop often at the rest stops.

i will remember that though when she's older and able to stand the long journey better.

We have also driven the 290-90-79-19-77-26-95-I4 route. We living in Fort Erie and drove 13 hrs the 1st day stopping in Richburg SC. We were not happy with the hotel and in future will stop outside Charlotte NC or venture foward to Columbia SC. If your looking around Charlotte, I hear there are some nice hotels around Two Notch Rd.

We take the same route as pps and what I do is use mapquest to figure out how far we will get (we don't have young children so do a long day the first day, then a shorter one the next). We are going in Feb. and were going to drive, and I had booked a Hilton Garden Inn in Rock Hill, SC (just past Charlotte, NC) for the way there, and the Country Inn & Suites in Beckley, WV for the way back. Once I have decided how far we will get (barring any problems!) I check Tripadvisor for the highest rated hotels in the area, then look at prices and book the one that suits us best. However, we got decent prices on airfare so have booked that now instead.

I see you like the Red Roof Inn. I would just double check tripadvisor because we have found a wide variation in quality, even within the same chains we tend to book with.

I'm not sure how far you live from the US border, but for us coming home, Beckley, WV to Hamilton/Burlington area is a fairly short day, about 8 hours driving time. You can probably make it to Morgantown, WV. Washington, PA is only 4.5 hours driving time from the border, whereas Morgantown is 5.25 hours.

We live in Toronto - so generally about 2 hours and we're across the boarder in Niagara Falls, then stop for breakfast at the Deny's at Angola - you know the one that straddles the highway.

we've been thinking about going to Virginia Beach first insead of last so we may head towards Washington then v.beach for 2 days then maybe a stop then disney

i'm not one way or the other with the red roof - i've signed up for just about every card LOL not that we travel much but it all adds up.

i'm guessing anything from 6-8 hours in distance will mean 8-10 hours on the road with all the stops
