How come they give you flimsy paper Annual Passes? All of the room keys are plastic and when we've bought hoppers (even from the Disney Store) they were plastic but when we bought our APs they were these flimsy little paper things!! And we've used them way more then we've ever used a Disney ticket before.

My DH has had to have his AP replaced twice already and I think it's because he was keeping it in his wallet. He's since stopped keeping it there but still you'd think they would make the APs plastic too.

Just wondering if anyone knew the reason behind this.

Not sure about the reason, but it has always been like that. We have had APs for almost 10 years, and they have always been paper. BTW, even a plastic one would need to be replaced if he keeps it in his wallet. The reason is that the magnetic strip on the back gets scrambled from the magnetic strips of teh other cards in his wallet.

That's what happened to the second one, it got scrambled from the other cards. But the first card started seperating up by the magnetic strip. I think they call it dog eared?? Or is dog eared just when it starts bending over? In any event it actually started peeling apart up by the strip and the machines wouldn't accept it anymore so that's why they had to replace the first one. Since then we've started to just keep them in their own plastic holder.

I keep my AP in the sleeve provided by Disney. I have only had to have one replaced in the 10 years or so since they switched to the Tyvek type ticket (they used to be a laminated photo ID pass).

We always keep them in the sleeve too. My DH learned the lesson about the magnetic strips the hard way. Our cards do get a little beat up on the edges from use, but they still work. I'm always amazed at how that tyvek holds up.

Just a guess, but I'd say it is due to cost.

I'd imagine that quite a few AP tickets get lost or damaged and have to be replaced multiple times. Those tyvek tickets are much cheaper to purchase (and print) than the plastic cards (especially when you consider the equipment).

We too keep our APs in the multi-fold thing that we were provided with when we picked up our tickets. So far they are still in pretty good shape, although I really hate those multi-fold things!!!

DH hated that new multifold one too, so he tore the multiple parts off, and just left the card sleeve with one cover. I like the older ones where there is a cover and the booklet with the instructions and perks is removeable inside the cover.

Renewed a couple of weeks ago thru MS, got our vouchers they are like a credit card. Bet the passes are on paper when we pick them up.

Back in the 80's and early 90's the AP was a plastic laminated card with your photo on it. I still have a couple of them in the drawer!

You went through a special AP and CastMember entrance. At EPCOT it was at the far right near the monorail and bus parking. The line was always short back then.

Now that sounds pretty cool! Especially entering through a special AP/CastMember entrance.

I have mutiple old annual passes that were plastic with a oval color picture lamenated to it. Saved them all ,My daughter was 3 when we bought her first one. Now she's is 25. Disneyland still has plastic cards with a digital picture on it. If they are lost they charge you a $10 fee to replace it. the picture stays in the computer and you can reuse the picture over and over. The line to have your picture taken is sometimes over an hour long and must be done the first day you enter the park. They do not have the finger machine
