Heading to Vero Beach May 2022 for the first time after 10 days at WDW. It will be just me, my husband, and my son who will turn 4 at WDW. We are from Northern California if that matters. I posted on the Vero Beach dedicated post but received one reply. Spam me with any Vero Beach related recommendations from activities to restaurants! I can navigate Aulani, Disneyland and DCA with my eyes closed but not the Eastern Disney Destinations!

So much to share(!) We have been to Disney Vero Beach at least 10 times and love it. It's a summer home vacation for us.

Above and beyond the resort itself, some of our favorite things to do in the area include going to the beach at Sebastian Inlet State Park. The Disney Vero Beach beach is great, but the Sebastien Inlet beach is stellar. There's a small fee to enter the State Park, but it's well worth it. Hardly anyone there in the summer and really beautiful water and waves if you like to skim or boogie board or surf (near the pier for that). We also like to do the Florida Cracker alligator airboat once in awhile (super fun and not too far), plus going to see the manatee at Round Island Beach Park is a good (and short) drive. Walking around Vero Beach itself is fun as well to check out a few local shops.

For dining, some our favorite stops beyond the hotel include Squid Lips in Sebastien (especially for the ambiance in its over-the-water location), Ay Jalisco for Mexican in Sebastian, Ocean Grill in Vero Beach for a nicer upscale meal at the beach, and Casey's Place for a local legend casual outdoor burger joint in Vero Beach. Orchid Island Pizza was convenient, but has now closed (unfortunately). These are just a few quick things off the top of my head, but rest assured there's lots to do in the area (not to mention all the fun stuff at the resort itself). Just beware of the noseeums(!) Such a great spot in a great area.

We were there in March and did pick up a pie at Orchid Island Pizza (pizza is good/decent but place needs a clean-up/renovation). Someone on the Vero Beach thread recently posted that it closed. I asked about this, but no one chimed in to confirm.

Have you heard or been there recently? I was just curious. Hoping it was for a renovation. We will be back in March (hoping to get in when my 7 month window opens up). Friends of ours told us to get in the car and get pizza elsewhere.

We have had meals at Riverside Cafe, drinks at the Sand Bar/Captain Hiram's and dinner at the restaurant there/Blackfin, Mulligan's, Ocean Grill & Winds & Wave Grill come to mind. We have picked up some meals at Publix too.

Have fun and happy planning!!!

Just checked and unfortunately, yes, Orchid Island may have fallen victim to Covid, sadly. It was convenient for sure for DVB. Yes, the Publix meatballs are a good take out fave, lol. Mulligans' on the other hand is one of the worst restaurant meals we have ever experienced. Definitely would not recommend especially if you have a younger family. Might be okay just for drinks at the bar I suppose.

Three best food places that are family friendly are Ocean Grill (more formal), Bobby’s, and CJ Cannon’s. Bobby’s is very close to Ocean Grill, and CJ’s is at the Vero airport.
There are several good places in Sebastian, but they’re more adult/party orientated rather than family.
Contrary to several folks here, although family friendly, we think the food at Squid Lips and Hiram’s kind of sucks.

Oh yeah… head north on A1A and visit the Mclaraty Museum. Pay the small fee and watch the movie. Very interesting. It’s all about the 1715 Plate Fleet and the treasure off the coast.
Also Kennedy Space Center is worth a visit IMO.

Whenever we stay at VB, we make it a point to dine at the Ocean Grill. In fact, we just returned from a week-long Vb stay, and we ate there twice during our trip. Since we enjoy sitting at a table that affords a good ocean/beach view, we had always arrived at the restaurant near their 4 pm opening time to add our name to their seating list for the 5 pm opening. Then we would wait in the bar until dinner time. This trip, we were pleasantly surprised to find that they now take phone reservations, even for small parties (we’re a party of 2). We called and booked about a week in advance for the first seating at 5 pm last Wednesday and decided to book another dinner for 5 pm Sunday before we left the restaurant. In both case, we arrived at the restaurant around 4:45 pm and were seated promptly at 5 with the desired window table. Outstanding food and service for both dinners. We like the fact that the seafood choices (that I prefer) are complemented with a nice selection of beef, pork, and chicken (DW goes for the prime rib, but would settle for a filet if that were not available).

Here's another vote for the Ocean Grill. The crab cakes are the best and very filling. I only ordered one and it's more than enough for me. My DH loves that he can get duck at this restaurant. He loves duck and it's not something you find on menus very often. Last year we ate at OG twice and DH got the duck both times. Bon appetit!

Thanks everyone I guess one less dinner to think off! Ocean Grill goes to the list!

We enjoyed renting glass-bottomed kayaks when we were there. We could see a few sea turtles in the distance, and bigger fish up close.

Also, we spent a couple afternoons/evenings at the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. They have some nice hiking trails, and if you like birds, you'll be in heaven! It was a 5-10 minute drive from the resort. Not sure how active the no-see-ums will be at that time, but I'd wear pants and long shirts just in case.

Have a blast! I loved Vero Beach SO much, and it was a great place to go after the hectic pace of the parks.

I totally forgot about that but I saw that somewhere! It seems they are at peak during our trip, any no-see-ums repellent recommendation?

Whatever we had, it didn't work! I got the worst of it, though, at the wildlife refuge. We were there in mid-July, fwiw.

I think we used a "natural" spray with herbal ingredients. Next time, I'll try the real stuff. They don't mess around!

Lol. We wont be able to hike as we'll probably tired by then. Thank you!!!

I keep hearing Ocean Grill over and over too. A good friend of mine said it's a must every trip. On my list!!!

Who knows which restaurants are still around, but we enjoyed the Italian Cousin in Sebastian.

The resort provided big pump bottles of something (not sure I want to know what it was) that worked well. We went to go across the street and the person at the security gate asked us if we needed some and plopped down the big container. They had it by the back doors as well. If you lather up before heading out, you might not need to buy too much.
