When you cook spaghetti or pasta with sauce, do you add anything else?

Today I made some penne pasta with spaghetti sauce, and decided to cook up some zucchini (in olive oil) to add to it. Sometimes I'll add mushrooms, or sliced green/black olives too.

I add both zucchini and green olives, too, sometimes. Nothing else, usually, except for garlic and tomatoes, if I'm using jarred sauce.

mushrooms, green and/or red peppers, onion sometimes carrots and parm chz
I try to sneak in as many veggies as I can.

If we are having pasta with meatballs and sausage, then nothing else besides the things I add to my sauce, ie, country pork ribs and salt pork.

The only other ways I really serve sauce is my son's favorite: sausage and peas served with medium size pasta shells (called sausage, shells and peas). I guess its one of my favorites too...and then sometimes I will do sausage, peppers and onions to serve it over pasta.

Always. Like you I like to add zuch., mushrooms, olives, eggplant when I have it in my garden. I have to try not to get too carried away or there's more "stuff" than sauce :rotfl:.

We tried adding spinach to marinara sauce recently and loved it.

My homemade sauce has mushrooms, red peppers, onions (course garlic) and don't :scared1: but a small cup of applesauce. My grandma always added it and you don't taste it but it cuts the acid (so she says, I don't know, I have just always done it.) I also do like zuchinni when we have it. Yumm.

Now I know the applesauce sounds weird but I have a friend who puts whole hard boiled eggs in hers, in place of meatballs. That seems weird to me (then again I am not a big egg person) but like my sauce I guess don't knock it till you try it.

I like lots of veggies so the mor the better IMO.

White sauce we like mushrooms, broccolo, peas, well, actually just about anything in white sauce.

I like to add spinach, squash, zucchini and some kind of ground meat... pork, turkey or beef, usually depending on what's on sale at the store.

Also, I usually use penne, just personal preference.

I don't know enough about acid or base content of apple sauce but I would imagine that it leaves a very slight sweet taste that's good.

With red sauce, sometimes we add ground beef or turkey, or sausage.

If we use olive oil instead (with garlic and spices) we usually add broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots.

I don't eat a lot of red sauce on pasta, I prefer cheese sauces like parmesean or alfredo but I do like to put broccoli in almost everything!

For marinara sauce, we always add meat!
Ground beef, meatballs, or italian sausage usually.
We sometimes add mushrooms too, but that's about it.

For a cream sauce, we like to add seafood. Bay scallops, shrimp, or salmon. I love taking salmon fillets, cooking them in a pan with some olive oil, breaking them up into small pieces, and adding it to an alfredo sauce.
