Spaceship Earth....What's wrong with it?

I think they need a major rehab (unless there's one already in the works). I was very disappointed in that ride. We got stuck on it like 3 times in one ride. The teenagers in front of us were yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs saying "FU*K THIS RIDE!" and more, and my daughter started crying because we were stuck leaning backwards so she thought we were gonna fall. I swear, it was such a miserable ride.....Before we got on I heard a lady in front of us in line say that she got stuck on it the day before but I thought that was just a one time occurance. Boy was I wrong. What the heck is going on?

Like anything else, rides can break down. Doesn't necessarily mean the ride needs a major rehab. Sorry you had a bad experience.

We were there in Nov and we expierenced the same situation. Got stuck two different times on the same ride, but really didn't think anything of it. That seems to be the usual for that ride. Sometimes it may even be it need to shut down for guest getting on with disabilities.

We rode it for the first time in 2005, and yup, got stuck -- right in front of the planet Earth, so at least we had a little light and something to look at. Since it was our 1st time riding, at first we thought the stoppage was part of the ride. Needless to say, this year we skipped it. Oh, but we tried out Figments ride, and truly not sure which ride is worse (think Figment might actually be worse).

Spaceship Earth definitely needs a sponsor. Really a shame, since its location would suggest that it'd be the "flagship" Epcot ride.

Yes a lot of the stops are due to them having to stop the cars to assist a special needs person who is not mobile on and off the ride. Haunted Mansion and Buzz Lightyear have the same type loading system and have to stop also if someone cannot enter on the moving walkway system. Spaceship Earth appeals to most guests and I think more non mobile people ride it than any other ride, we always seem to stop. DH and I do enjoy it, though it is dated now we ride it at least once each trip and often two or three times.... :sunny:

There is nothing wrong with the ride. The ride itself was not the problem, they stopped the ride on purpose. The ride has to be stopped everytime they load a handicap guest. If a ride stops and then restarts without you being evacuated then there is a 99.9% chance it had nothing to do with the ride but rather a guest issue. SSE very rarely breaks down.

After not riding it for 8 years or so, we have gone on it recently. I think that the exit room is sooo sad. I hope the sponsor dresses it up soon!

We like Figmant's ride, not as much as the original, but enough to go on it every time we're at WDW, and we enjoy the interactive things after it as well.

Bobbi :)

I was on the ride when it first opend.... I loved it. I'm sorry to hear that they are having problems.

I think I've gotten "stuck" on Spaceship Earth every time I've ridden it. To me it just seems like any of the continous moving rides at WDW, they sometimes have to stop to allow boarding for guests with disabilities.

I had heard a rumor last summer about them possibly chancing Spaceship earth completely and turning it into a roller coaster....any truth to this or is it just another tall tale from a Cast Member? :upsidedow

It's an older ride, so there's gonna be some problems sometimes. But it really just depends on the day. Over the last couple years, I've been on it probably a dozen times. 2 or 3 times it's gotten stuck here or there. The rest of the time it's been fine.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love getting stopped on SE (just not in the burning Rome section!)! There is so much detail in all of the scenes and the music is so nice that I really enjoy having some time to take it all in.

That, however, would have really ticked me off if I had been on with my DD!!!

I noticed last year that when you get to the top of the ride and can see the earth and all the stars that there are several repair spots where the black paint is a different color from the original and the stars on those repair spots are missing. I just think that it's sad, and wish they would fix it right.

There are no stars missing as there are no stars on the roof at all. The stars are all projected on to the surface.

I haven't gone on space ship earth for about 3 years. I found it kinda boring. I'll have to go try again. I also want to say I liked the old figment ride alot better than the new one.

I haven't been to Disney in seven years (my trip is the day after tomorrow!!!), but I remember really liking SSE. I never minded getting stopped (I've even been stopped in the burning Rome section!), and I'm fairly sure that it's because of guests that can't get on the moving thing.

We love Spaceship Earth!!!!

I love to kick back, relax, and soak up the air conditioning on a hot day!!! :sunny: My youngest DD always falls asleep during this ride, and the CM's always let us stay on as long as we want. There was a time we sat on this 3 times in a row

When it comes to the ride stopping, they have to do that to allow handicap people to get on and off the ride w/o getting injured. Could you imagine being on crutches or in a wheelchair and the ride not stopping - YIKES!!!! I'm proud that Disney makes all rides accessible to all people :thumbsup2

This is my favorite ride, Siemens is the new sponsor and they have been fixing up things inside that need reparing . effects that havne't worked for years are now working. NO word yet on exactly what more they are going to change or repair in the ride. They are currently working on a new exit area that should be opened sometime next year.

As for the rollar coaster idea. this was infact talked about by the park officials but it was determined that the structure could not handle the ride and it would be very costly getting it inside without taking the globe appart.

Yeah, it seems like everytime I am on Spaceship Earth it stops at some point, mostly to help disabled quest get into their "time machine" :). Since it is a continuously moving ride it's the only way to allow someone extra time to get into their vehicle. I don't mind being stopped either but I TOTALLY agree with the burning rome comment! :earseek: I love Spaceship Earth, I think it's very relaxing HOWEVER I do think they could touch it up a bit...you know, add a few new scenes etc. I think (as someone else mentioned) as the flagship Epcot ride it deserves to be remodled a bit. Breathe a bit of new life into it. :thumbsup2

The only part that is hard for me on SSE is the descend backwards. Eeesh does that feel super steep to me. It creeps me out up and down.
