Spaceship Earth-time for a change? (bit long)

If they built it now they'd have improved technology and better effects, so it could stand an update. A lot of Epcot needs work and it looks as if that is going to become a priority.:D

Don't mess with Spaceship earth, mess with the living seas or something.

I agree! Living Seas was (still is?!!?) the lamest thing going! I think Spaceship Earth needs updating on the actual mechanics of the ride, and possibly the *futuristic technology* portions (as that really isn't FUTURISTIC anymore ;) ) but on the whole it is a great attraction. My family LOVES it and the kids insist on hitting SE very first (and last :p ) each time we enter Epcot!

I am new to this board but have been frequenting others and learned that SE will close in 2004 for a new ride to be put in. When I went for my Disney trip in Dec. 2002 it had been several years since my last trip. I have always loved SE and Epcot. However, this time I was bored. Most of Epcot needs to be updated. We rode SE several times while there and I noticed that the ride was rougher and did give me an earache on the way back down backwards. However, I still love this ride and would only want to see it updated but mainly kept in tact. Looking at Planet Earth is a one of a kind experience there and nothing else compares. I would really miss that.

I use to love the old Living Seas. Now I don't know why I bothered going in it. I hope that they manage to improve it in some way. It is truly sad to see. What did they do with the dolphins? I can remember them teaching them in the tanks and several of them would just be swimming around in general. This last time we didn't see any all. This time all we saw we the same fish, one shark and one large beautiful 100 year old turtle. This is a shadow of what it once was.

At least Ellen's Energy Adventure has been updated and is certainly better than it used to be. I wish that the Imagination one was open as I know they did the update but it was closed that week.

I'm torn! What do you guys think?

Hmmmm.....What do I think? It looks like I'm in the minority so please don't bite!! I'm just answering the question..... ;) I'm wanting to see something different. SE was not that exciting to me but that doesn't mean much since I'm a Magic Kingdom girl at heart.;) For those of you who loved SE, I sincerly hope the new attration won't disapoint you.:D

All things being equal, I wouldn't mind if they changed it, IF the ride length was the same, not shortened, and IF the quality of the different scenes was maintained. But, considering the changes made in the recent past to classic rides (think JIYI), maybe they should just leave it alone. I'm torn! What do you guys think?

I'm in the minority but I would like to post.....I am looking forward to the new attration that is replacing SE. That's all I'll say...Don't want to start a debate ;)

When I first heard this I was aghast. I was at WDW just a few days later and rode it just to make sure I rode it before it was ripped out. I now am thinking it does need a facelift. The warning at the front of the ride is to me unnecessary and ruins the whole ride. They probably had some WDW lawyer tell them to put it there for liabilitity reasons no doubt. Just a facelift no more. Now The Living Seas is another matter. Since they took out the ride sequence, the entire attraction is no more than an empty shell of its former self. We walked in, spent maybe 10 minutes in it and walked out...smjj
