Spaceship Earth Scene Change?

I just read on realdisney.com that the SE scene with the Phoenician merchants has been taken out! Is there any truth to this rumor? Can anyone verify this?

I was there last week, and the Phoenicians were there.

The scene has changed, Was on the left hand side with a boat and life size figures, now it is on the right and is a model boat on an ocean scene.

I was ther last week & saw the changes (as posted above). I also talked with a CM who said that they were thinking about doing away with spaceship earth and revamping it into a coaster ride.

My 8 year old DS flipped out when he heard this. The Cm said that they are trying to make Epcot more "kid friendly" with more rides. Start letter writing now.......

Check out the Rumor Board. There has been a lot of talk about this! My DS8 says the Spaceship Earth ride is his favorite thing at WDW! We would all be upset if they make it into a roller coaster! I guess Disney feels that they have to add more thrill rides to keep up with the competition, but why do they have to get rid of the old classics to do it! How can you call a coaster more "kid friendly"? What about young kids, older people, pregnant ladies, people with health problems, and people with motion sickness (like ME) ????? I guess it is just the way society is headed, anything that is not super fast and wild is BORING to most people. Makes me very sad!!!!!! Lacee

I agree, Lacee. Disney should not take this great attraction out in the name of a thrill ride. I love thrill rides, but they aren't making a white water rapid ride out of Pirates of the Caribbean, are they?

This rumor seems a bit strong to dismiss....I hope I'm wrong.

They'd better not! I remember the last day I rode World of Motion, I loved that ride. My family rode it as the last ride of the night and after we got off the CM walked us out and said, "That's it." We asked what he meant and he said, "It's closed, you were the last ones" Terribly sad moment!
