Spaceship Earth - Does it change colors

Hi - SpaceShip Earth was made to reflect the sunset and it is beautiful the way it appears to be changing colors. Also at night, they do have lights shining on it that make it appear to be different colors, but in reality - no it doesn't physically change colors.

I haven't seen Illuminations for several years. At the end of the show, they used to use the lasers to project a rotating globe on the lagoon side of SE. It was a great effect. Do they still do that?

Steve

They do lasers on the globe in the lake, but I don't think on SE?? But I could be mistaken. If they ever did that, I didn't know about it.

Just returned from WDW and we were staying at the BCV from 7/20 - 7/26 with this view off the balcony:

SE stayed this same color all night long - no changes like the castle does. The World Showcase side is turned off during Illuminations as to not interfere with the fireworks, and we didn't see anything projected onto SE during Illuminations.

It's ashame they stopped doing that. Used to be my favorite part of the show.

The only thing that's projected on SE during Illuminations is a green line, roughly where its "equator" would be. I am not familiar with the technology they use, I always assumed that was the lasers' idle position.

disneysteve, I remember the image of the globe which was projected on SE. I really hated it when they discontinued that because it was such a neat effect.

The last time I remember seeing it was in 1990, I believe.

Of course I can't find it right now :( ,but I remember reading something about the lighting of Spaceship Earth. At first, they tried lighting it with just white lights pointing up at it. That washed out the silver color and made it look like a big golf ball. They settled on shining different colored lights on it (without moving the lights), which is what gives it sort of a glowing, color change effect.
PS. I love your picture, Tagrel. We were at BCV recently and stayed on the "Epcot" side, but we were too low to have a view.

Yes, what they are using are outdoor color changers, that are projected on to the globe. The silver panels help make the effect even cooler. It's a neat effect, yet they usually stick to one color.

Wow, Tagrel, that view is beautiful! Would you be willing to share with us please what room # you had and what size villa? That's where I'll be in December, BCV, and I'd love a view like that. Whatever # it is, I'll keep my fingers crossed for it or something like it!
