I'm hoping it stays on schedule, i'm considering renting a car to go out to watch the launch on the 29th.
Sunday, May 1 update:
Because of work associated with fixing the problem, launch teams will not be able to make a launch attempt tomorrow (Monday, May 2). Teams will meet Monday and are expected to determine a new no earlier than next launch attempt for Endeavour at that time.
Technicians began testing systems associated with the heaters yesterday afternoon and into the overnight hours. Test results indicate the problem is with a power control box, the aft load control assembly-2 (ALCA-2) in Endeavours aft compartment. Teams are working on plans to replace the box or any faulty associated hardware. The launch team currently is backing out of launch countdown operations.
LCA for a heater unit was failing to register properly with the onboard systems. (bad fuse for the most part). Usual window is 48-72 hours for a fix but the weather windows(optimal weather in some 25+ locations around the globe) have caused it to be put off for a week amongst a more stringent troubleshooting process.
We did a 24 hour trip to see it. We left home Sunday afternoon and got back home Monday night at 630pm. Wow were we tired. Our son who is a Marine got to see it with us. It was amazing. The only downside was about 45 seconds into the launch it hit the clouds and was gone. I think it was probably to cloudy to see from the Fort. Atlantis NET is July 12th morning.
Where did you find the July 12th date? I am looking for a place to find better updates. We drove down to see the Nov 1st launch and waited through a week of delays. Then in December I reserved a campsite for 6/28. I am trying to figure out what dates to try to move to now.
Hi! I am trying to find out something. I hope somebody in this wonderful board can help me. Considering that the previous shuttle launch was postponed two or three times maybe someone here experienced this:
When you buy a ticket to watch the shuttle launch at the Kennedy space center (the ones that are limited in number and you have to register for), what happens if they reschedule the launch for a different day? Are your ticket valid for that later date or you are just out of luck (and money)?
If anybody knows, I would really appreciate!
Thank you in advance!
They transfer to the new launch date.
