Hello all.

I have an August reservation for a 2 bedroom at OKW and am on the waiting list for BCV.

I'm thinking about cancelling the wait for BCV, because it will be me, my husband, our two teen sons and their girlfriends. I'm thinking there may be more living area to hang out or watch TV at OKW. I figure the girls can have the second bedroom and the boys the pull out couch.

Thoughts?

p.s. Should I look into wait listing the Treehouses? How are they on room? Thanks in advance. :)

We own at both OKW and BCV and yes - the living area at OKW is larger than BCV. OKW's living room has plenty of space to hang out without feeling too crowded. BCV's living area is considerably smaller. There are just 3 or 4 of us when go and we can feel kinda cramped. That being said, we love both OKW and BCV but would definitely choose OKW if space was an issue. We will be at both in August as well - see you there!

I wouldn't give up a waitlist for BCV, I just like that resort a whole lot more than OKW, but OKW has a sleeper chair in the living room, so your boys will have 2 pullout beds and not have to share the one queen sized pull out that's in the BCV living room.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. The treehouses would have enough beds for everyone, but the 2 in that 3rd bedroom are bunk beds. The living room there also has the sleeper chair. There are no king beds in the treehouses if that makes a difference to you. 2 bedrooms have 1 queen beds, the other bedroom has the bunks. I have a waitlist for a treehouse for a weekend in October, and I don't really have much hope for getting one.

Thanks, guys.

Bobbi, I wouldn't hold my breath for getting Treehouses in mid-August either, but a queen would be fine for us, and the boys could take the bunks. BTW, what is the pool situation there? Did they build a pool for that area?

The fact that the chair is a pull out at OKW is another push for that resort. It's not 100 percent that the younger son's girlfriend is going, and if she doesn't, he will bring a guy friend. If that is the case, then the girlfriend can take the chair, and we don't have to mess around with the couch each morning and night. The boys could take the second bedroom.

But then again, I love that pool at BCV, and it is mid-August. We are Northerners--what are we thinking going then?

Hi
We too have stayed in both
OKW has more space and definitely more space if you are eating in
However BCV is a fabulous resort with so much to do close to hand without driving or taking the bus
We are coming over in July -two adults two teenagers and our 9 year old and we are staying at OKW and BCV because we love both for different reasons
:grouphug:

I think the 2BRs at the "2nd generation resorts" (BCV, BWV, VWL, and SSR) are okay for four, a little cramped for six, and impossible for eight. OKW is okay for six, a little cramped for eight.

We did four in a one-bedroom at SSR, and the boys sleeping in on that pull out drove me crazy. Hopefully with the company, they will get their butts up in the morning. lol.

The following year we did a two-bedroom standard in Kidani, and it was overkill. I don't even know if we used that third bathroom at all.

We aren't park commandos (having been so many times), but I do like the idea of walking over to Epcot and all the restaurant choices. :)

We love OKW, okay we're biased it's our Home , but I'd have to say unless the kids are fans of Downtown Disney I think BCV/BWV area would offer them more to do right outside the door without needing to always get someplace by bus or car.

Also, just wanted to mention that at OKW buildings numbered above 30 have second entrance into master bathroom through laundry room, so guests would not need to walk through master bedroom to access it; just figured I'd mention that, for some families it's important if they plan to have guests use master bathroom.

Have fun planning:goodvibes

We have done 6 adults at all 3 you are looking at: OKW, BCV and THV.

Definitely stay in OKW. We survived at BCV but we weren't happy about it. There is just so much more room to spread out at OKW. A feature that we loved was the huge balcony with the table and 4 chairs. Our adult sons/daughters in law played cards out there for hours. And for dining in, we were able to pull in those patio chairs so that all 6 of us could sit at the table.

I love staying BCV but honestly, I'm the only one in my family who feels that way. We've stayed at all of the DVC resorts except BLT and they will all say that OKW is their favorite.

And THV has 3 bedrooms but you have to be very short to use those bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom; they are not made for adults. Also, transportation is a huge pain here. And the TV viewing area in the living space is very cramped. They have a huge kitching and dining area but not so much in the living room.

We've had 6 adults in a BCV 2 bedroom and we never thought it was crowded, but when my family comes, we have 4 adults and 3DGC and I don't think that's bad either. I love the decor at BCV and we just make do, it's never been a problem for us.

There is a very basic pool in the treehouse section of SSR. I think there was a hot tub there, but we used the main pool when we stayed in the treehouse section.

I would recommend OKW. It is just so much more roomy and spacious than BCV. I adore BCV and am looking forward to a stay there shortly, and LOVE the proximity to the boardwalk as well as EPCOT, but I really do love OKW as well. There is just so much more room to spread out in.

Also, I will tell you that we actually have moved the sleeper chair into the master bedroom (unscrewed the legs on the bottom), so you have so much flexibility having the sleeper chair to begin with, plus again it's somewhat movable so more added flexibility.

Good luck with your decision!

Thanks everyone. I called yesterday and took BCV off the wait list. I started looking at pictures, and OKW does look so much more roomier. And even the second bedroom looks bigger with its two beds and table. No dealing with the couch.

While I'll miss not being able to walk over to Epcot, an air conditioned bus sounds good too. I've stayed at OKW a couple of times in a studio just for one night and have always wanted to stay longer and settle in. There is such a relaxed feeling there, and I love all the vegetation. We are also by the Hospitality House which will be good for the kids. Hubby will love being on the golf course. Not to mention we'll save a good chunk of points. :thumbsup2

OOPS! The HH booking category might NOT be the best for you in this situation. Those rooms do NOT have the additional door to the master bath, so anyone sleeping in the living room is going to have to go through the master bedroom to get to the bathroom at night. For your group of 6 who need 5 beds, I'd definitely stay with OKW, but I'd get out of the HH category and request buildings 30 or higher instead. that bathroom door issue if you have people in the living room would be a deal breaker for me. Our favorite buildings at OKW are in 45 and 46. The canal view is not to be beat, and it's an easy walk to either the main pool or the South Point pool.

I have to thank you for this post. I was about to book BWV with no qualms. I had been waffling back and forth on OKW or BWV. One thing I did not even think about was that while I could walk back and forth to Epcot.. it's going to be August. I may prefer the air conditioned buses too!
Now I have more thinking to do:rotfl:

Are you serious, Diane? They can use the bathroom to the second bedroom though, right?

Sure, but either way, they are going to be walking through another bedroom to get to the bathroom. In the buildings 30-64, there is an extra door that goes from the laundry room into the toilet/shower area of thee master bath. The door to the master can stay closed and the living room guests can still use the toilet without going through or disturbing those in the master. Since HH category is buildings 11-14 and 23-26, they will NOT have that extra door. I guess if it was me, I wouldn't be too comfortable with having the guys go through the girls bedroom to get to the john!

Okay, thanks. :)

It's only the older son's GF now. The younger one will bring a friend. So she can sleep on the pull out chair. I plan on having the boys keep their door open anyway. I'm sure they'll be up late, and seeing that there will be two other guys in there, I'm not too worried about any hanky panky.

I didn't sign up for having teenagers. They were supposed to stay little. ;) Seriously though, I'm really looking forward to this trip. We've always talked about doing a trip and letting them both bring someone. It's like a graduation present for my 17 year old.

Welcome to the life of a parent with teenagers. 3 teenage boys on a trip. Hope the GF knows what she is getting into. Put more then 2 boys into a room and the average age is about 5. DD is 16 on our trip and DS #1 is 24 DS#2 is 22 and nephew also comming with us is 22. They all love OKW and are dissapointed we are not staying there this time. There will be about 1400 sq. feet of space in a OKW 2bdrm. Bigger then some houses I know of. It is also one of the few resorts with a full basketball court. Big draw for my boys. If you are lucky then maybe you will get a building in the 60's. They are usually within walking distance of the HH.

They will have to walk through the second bedroom to get to the second bathroom in units below #30. If you look at the member website diagram you will see the situation.

In buildings 30 and higher an extra door was added in the wall separating the laundry and the master bathroom. If you think that cutting through the corner of the bedrooms to get to the bathrooms will be a problem then you should call back and ask to be taken off of the Hospitality House category.
I think that OKW was a good choice. The difference in size between OKW and BCV 2 bedrooms is huge, not slight. And the kids may enjoy taking the boat to DD.

I didn't realize they had a full bball court. They will love to hear that. Where is it located?

So if I decide to change my room request buildings 30-64? I just don't want to get stuck far from main pool, transportation, etc. I will go look at a map of the buildings. Thanks again everyone. :)
