I've been reading alot of peoples opinions about Space Mountain and it seems an awful lot of people really did not like it. I am travelling with my husband, 12 year old daughter and 10 year old son. I'm probably the biggest chicken in the group. Can anyone tell me why they hated it so much, or why they loved it? Don't want to make myself sick first thing in the a.m. Thanks!!

The thing I like about Space Mountain is that it is completely in the dark. You cannot see a thing except the stars and space stuff projected on the ceiling. You have no idea when a turn, drop or hill is coming up. Now this can also make it rough since you really can't prepare yourself for the upcoming turns and hills.

I love Space Mountian. The reason people don't like it is because it's not dark anymore. it is really fun with some airtime.

I like Space Mountain!! It may not be as smooth as the newer coasters, but it certainly is fun. Side A and Side B offer slightly different ride experiences. I don't do TOT anymore with all the drops, and I have chickened out on RNC and MS, but I can handle Space Mountain without a problem.

Space Mountain is fun! Even my grandmother, who is terrified of dark places, goes on. Some people don't like it because you have to sit by yourself. The drops are not that bad, the ride mostly has little dips. It does look like your head is going to hit the coaster though. It just adds to the fun. Ride it, you'll like it!

I have to agree with the "not dark enough" thing, but all in all, I love Space Mountain. It was the first thrill ride at the MK when I was there in '76, and it brings back great memories. As I get older, I find the jerkiness is a little rough on my neck, but not enough to stop me from riding. I especially love the blue light tunnel that you go through before the big hill.:D

Oh, and did I mention I'll be riding it in 4 days?;) :bounce:

Space Mountain was the first roller coaster that I ever was on. I was 11 years old. Before then, I was terrified of roller coasters. I loved Space Mountain, though. Lots of fun!!

Why is the ride no longer in the dark? Also, my daughter is going to be six when we go. Does she have to sit by herself also? Or does she sit with one of us?

Everyone in my family loves Space Mountain, and it is definitely a must do on our list in the Magic Kingdom. It does tend to be a bit rough at times, and because you can't see what is coming up and it does turn and twist on itself, it is hard to brace yourself for what it coming up.

I would DEFINITELY NOT skip this one. It is a Disney Classic. At least ride it once, and if it is not to your taste, don't go back. I have a feeling, though that you will not get your 10 and 12 year olds to agree to only going once! I know I can't keep my 9 year old off of it!

The seating configuration is that each car has 3 seats that sit one in front of the other, and there are 2 cars joined together. All passengers must sit alone. Try to get in the 1st car, if at all possible, because it is less jerky. Also, there are 2 tracks, and the left side, as you are coming in from the main ride seems to be a bit smoother.

As for it being lighter in there, I haven't noticed any difference. I still can't see what is coming up. It is a really awesome experience!

In my opinion, the last seat of the last car is a little more comfortable becuase you can see the first car going into the turn before you do (the sides of the cars glow in the dark)... gives you a fraction of a second to "get ready" for the turn. I have found that makes it a little easier on the neck!

First time to WDW, my DD6 absolutely loved this ride!

Space Moutain is a must! I'm looking so forward to riding it next year because I haven't been able to ride it the last two times we were there. My DD wouldn't get on it and there are just three of us in the family. It's by no means a huge roller coaster but being in the dark makes it so exciting. I can remember being in the 6th grade on a field trip to Epcot. We took the monorail to the MK just to ride Space Mountain. My friend and I rode and we saw the track turning left and we turned right! Boy, did we scream! It was so much fun. Definitely a great childhood memory.

This was the first rollercoaster I enjoyed - finally kept my eyes open and loved it. I'll ride any coaster now.

If you ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority you actually pass through Space Mountain which gives you a bit of an idea what to expect.

Hey my twin brothere and I where 4 when we first rode it and my sister was 5. We all love it. Even my grandfather who isn't the biggest coaster fan. Everyone in my family loves it. I like Otegam the best (B side).:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:
