Hey,

I was at Disney World last in late June and when I was there Space Mountain (at the Magic Kingdom) was closed for renovation. I was informed that it would re-open late August.

Any comments from anyone whose been there since late August on if it is any different or if it has been improved / changed?

Its one of my favourite rides in all of Disney World so I want to hear how much it has changed (if its faster and darker that would be awesome!!)

Any info ??

It's still not open. We were there last week and there is no indication anywhere on when it'll be opening. It didn't look like it'd be anything soon from what we saw.

The re-open date is either October or November. It was never August.

They are doing a major overhaul this time around. It's not just a maintenance closure.

I think the date they've always said for Space Mountain was to re-open on November 21st. The date for the TTA has moved around a couple times. It re-opened a couple weeks ago. Maybe that's the date you were thinking of.

I was there last week and I believe I read a sign saying it will be opened Fall 2009.

It's never had an August opening. November is what they are aiming for.

I agree with the pp's - there was never an intention to reopen SM before November 2009. According to an article I read last week, SM is still slated to open "on time", whereas the washroom area might be slightly delayed (it was supposed to open all at the same time).

I'm just hoping it's back up and running for our trip in December :thumbsup2

We are going from Nov 10-19th. I'm thinking we are *just* going to miss it.
Oh well, here's hoping to a slightly earlier opening. If not ...I guess that just means another trip to WDW will be in order!:lmao:

I am there with you, a soft opening would be great! :worship: fingers crossed... :)

Their website has always said Nov.

Last time we were there (11 years ago) it was closed too & now again it's closed for our trip down. I haven't rode it in years!

Well apparently I am mistaken about the late August date.

When I was there in June a cast member standing in the front of Space Mountain reminding people that it was closed told me Late August / Early September, but I guess he was also mistaken.

Thanks for the updates mousketeers.

When it does open, please update me on the changes. Especially now that I am being told it was a huge overhaul I am very curious to see what it new!!

it was a huge overhaul 11 years ago but from what I understand there wasn't a lot of changes to the ride. We actually got to go inside with all the lights on & see the tracks in the lights. It was pretty cool. They were testing the cars while we were inside. We got to see a view that you normally don't see.

I think I remember they were upgrading the track system among other things while we were there.

I have been on the Space Mountain in Disneyland and it seems to have been updated. It keeps the same feel as the old space mountain but is even funner!

We loved it. Hopefully, the WDW Space Mountain is getting a similar overhaul.

DS was chosen last trip to be a commander (of some other title) and got a tour of the control room and got to ride up front as many times as his little heart desired (which was quite a few). Great memory for him - looking forward to the new and updated SM!
