At what age were your children when they first rode space mountain, and how well did they handle it? I am thinking about taking my DD6 on it is August. I don't want to terrify her, though!

I went with my neice who was 5 at the time (last year) and she LOVED it... Loved it 3 times in a row loved it!!!

My niece rode it last December at 5 1/2. She really hadn't rode alot of rides before this trip to Disney and she loved them all......ToT was her favorite, she made us ride it 5 times. So I am sure it varies with every kid.

Last summer DS was 6 yrs 2 mos when he rode. He loved it too! One of his favorites to be sure!

Don't have kids yet, but I rode Space Mountain when I was 4 years old. Made my parents go on it over and over again :rolleyes1

My DD just reached 40". If she was 44" I would have her go on it now, but she already loves roller coasters. Been on all the ones that she is big enough for now and rushes to get back on them. I would start them off on Goofy's Barnstormer and then do TMRR. If the child is ok to do them, then most certainly do SM.

My dd(7) is a very reserved child. She doesn't take chances...

Last September my dh and ds (8) rode Space Mountain and my dd and I sat at the end waiting for them to get off because there was no way she was going to ride it (and I don't push).. After the boys got off the ride she said "ok, I'll ride it".

I rode directly behind her with my hands on her shoulders the whole time to make her feel more safe. When we got off the ride she was smiling ear to ear. We rode that ride 10-15 times in a 2 day period. It's now her favorite ride.

Just keep in mind it really only goes 25 miles per hour. It's the dark that makes it seem faster.

Hope this helped.

DS rode it for the first time 2 months before his 6th b-day, DD had just turned 7, when she tried. Both absolutely loved it, and had to go again and again.

I think an important factor for this ride is whether your child is afraid of the dark. DD went on in '05 when she was 5 and was very frightened of the dark, not so much the ride. We are going again at christmas and she is talking about going back on this time, so it couldn't have been too bad.

Have fun!!!

my kids, now 16,14 and 11, rode everything including Space M as soon as they were tall enough. we never had trouble, they loved everything. back then, I always trusted the height guides as a reliable age guide also.

(well, except "tough to be a bug, which my then-6 year old son sobbed hysterically through and demanded I take him out early, but that's a show, not a ride)

k

My younger sister--age 8--recently went on Space Mountain and Rock and Roller Coaster, and cried for 20 minutes afterwards because the ride was in the dark. In contrast, I was 8 when I first rode Space Mountain, and loved it. My other sister also rode Space Mountain for the first time at age 8 (she couldn't ride it at age 6 because she was too small), and also had a great time. It really just depends on the child. If they get too scared during the queue area for Space Mountain, which is also in the dark, I wouldn't take them on it.

Twin DD's (now 16), first rode Space Mountain back in 1996 when they were 6 and they loved it.

This is what happened to us; our DD was 9, and knew it would be dark inside, but it still wasn't what she thought it would be. She came out crying, too. We felt bad for hours afterwards, since it was the first attraction she experienced on her first-ever trip to WDW. :guilty:

I took me DD6 in Dec. I, too, held her shoulders the whole time. As soon as we exited, the first thing she said was "Can we go again?"
My DD5 does not like the dark. We left her with Daddy. On the WedWay. (My husband fave! :rotfl2: )

My DD's 5&6 both want to try this ride this Oct. So far they have tried every ride they meet the height requirement of. I have informed them both, numerous times, that this ride is just like BTMRR however it is in complete darkness.

My sister was 4 the first time she went on it and my parents didn't know what it was when they took her on it....after the ride they were freaking out because they thought she was traumatized, instead she says "Can we do that again!?"

My older DD was 6 and the younger one was 4. I was much more at ease with DD 4. She is brave enough to try anything. Older DD we have to drag her on things and then she loves them. Younger DD usually ends up being scared afterwards. The only thing that frightens me about this ride is if they HATE it, they can't hold onto you, because they are sitting by themselves, not next to you. That's the only thing that scares me. I would just make sure they aren't afraid of the dark and try Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first.

I will let the kids decide DGD x2 love all the rides at local park but none are in the dark. Add to this I wouldn'tmind the dark it would be the ride I'd hate!

I think this all on the child...are they adventurous? more reserved? My DD is a coaster Freak and she Loved it last June at the age of 5!
Of course this is the same child that cried when she could NOT go on the HULK at IOA. :confused3 :teeth:
