Space Mountain vs. Big Thunder Mtn.

I would say that neither is as thrilling as compared to say Dueling Dragons at UO, or RnR @ MGM, but my vote goes to SM. It's in the dark, and even if you have been on many times, unless you have it memorized, rarely do you know what to expect. BTM is good, but to me, it's comparing a different "type" of thrill or excitement.

I love Big Thunder, but have always been to chicken to ride Space Mountain. I would live to ride it someday.

Go for it!! My ds was 4 when he rode SM and BTMR and he LOVED them both, but Space Mountain is his favorite. He loves roller coasters though, and he thought Expedition Everest was a blast while I almost lost my lunch. Everyone should ride Space Mountain at least once just so they can say they've done it.:thumbsup2

Ok, I've never done space mountain and I think I really want to do it this time. I LOVE, LOVE Big Thunder Mountain and I am not a roller coaster type person at all. Can anyone give me the "lowdown" on space mountain? How does it compare? More intense I'm sure since it's in the dark :cool2: .

What else can you tell me? :confused3

I was brave and tried it again last year. I did not like it as a child and rode it last in 2000. Didn't like it then as an adult either. But I liked it last year. It was fun.
The CM told me that the top speed ~ if I can remember now ~ I think was 27 miles an hour and the tallest hill/drop was only like 20 feet. That made me relax before riding it. I asked to be up front for more leg room~that was scary!!! I was right there in that little car thing and they design it so that you thing you are going to hit your head and run into things in the dark... that is the only scary thing. The dark and all the close calls;)

I would def. try it though, I will do it again in Jan. it was fun~and i'll ask for the front again:rotfl:

Hehe! Well I LOVE Big Thunder Mountain and it's one of my favorites besides Splash Mountain.

The first time I rode SM I was in my early 20's and enjoyed it. The next time I went I was around 40 and did not like it at all. We were in the first car and I was a bit queasy when I got off. I just don't care of any dark coaster rides, even at the water parks!

I hate roller coasters and finally got up enough nerve to do Space Mountain last December at DL. BMTRR bothers me a little. I don't like drops. I was able to do SP with my eyes closed and cant wait to try it again. I think if you can do BMTRR, you will be able to handle SP. I did and I am a BIGGGG chicken. Now I just need to get up enough nerve to try the Rockin Roller Coaster. :scared1:

SM, as mentioned before, has lots of twists and turns. It seems there's hardly any straight track. Therein lies the problem for me - I love speed, heights, even inversions on coasters, but I don't "spin" well!!:lmao: I cannot ride teacup rides or anything else that spins me in a fast, tight circle. A rollercoaster 1,000 feet high going 500 mph would be a blast for me, as long as most of the track was straight. SM, though it is a very tame rollercoaster, makes me sick due to the tight, quick turns. BTMRR does not induce this sickness in me; however, Goofy's Barnstormer does!

Did that description help?

RNRCoaster has no nig drops, but it's fast. Took me quite a while to work up the nerve to go on it.

Think of it as Space Mountain, but about twice as fast. Also, there's no clmbing up a hill at the start. You just go!

I actually rode (and loved) RnR before Space/Splash/Big Thunder Mts.

I feel safe with a shoulder restraint -- I don't care how fast it goes or if it goes upside down, as long as I don't have to fear falling OUT :rotfl: Basically you're going so fast that you're immediately pressed back into your seat (have you done Mission space?) and flying through the air on a VERY smooth track until you stop. If you enjoy speed, the roller coaster aspects shouldn't trouble you too much. It's definitely an adrenaline rush, but once you've done it it's no longer scary. Tower of Terror remains scary for me each trip -- but I still do it!

So a couple of years ago I psyched myself into doing Space Mountain. Found it jerky and uncomfortable but nothing to have scared myself over for years. Basically it's like Primevil Whirl without the whirl, if you know what I mean -- nothing drastic, just sudden turns. But it's semi-dark.

The last two trips I TRIED to psych myself up to do Splash Mtn. (Big Thunder always seemed to be closed). Stood there watching that drop, seeing the cars with just about no handles to speak of to hang onto/hold me in... and I couldn't.

This time I forced myself... and it was nothing! So I tried BTMM and that was nothing! So I ran over and did Space Mountain just to say I'd finally conquered my fear and done all three (and on the same day, yet!) and found it was really mild.

Maybe next trip I'll do EE, and then there won't be anything I can't do :)

If you have been on any rollarcoaster in other theme parks, it will seem very tame. Of course, while I love Big Thunder Mountian, I think that is very tame too. Compared to rides at like Kings Island and Six flags and stuff, they are very tame coasters. At least that is how I perceive them.

Now I just need to get up enough nerve to try the Rockin Roller Coaster. :scared1:

Once you get passed the first 0- whatever mph, it isn't bad at all, the start is the biggest thrill part of it, at least it is as far as I can remember.

Space Mountain is the best ride at MK,as someone said BTMRR is faster than Space Mountain but the darkness of SM is what makes this a great ride.Big Thunder while it may be tamer is a must do for me,especially at night,it just has a different feeling at night!!

Maybe it's me but I've always thought BTMRR was pretty lame. Space Mountain has the darkness aspect that prehaps make it seem wilder than it really is.
