Space Mountain Rehab

I'm all for the update...especially if it's like DL's .....BUT I'm also glad the girls & I get to ride just one (or 10) more times in March. When we were there last March, I told them it "might" be going info refurb...and we rode it a dozen times during our week long trip....so I'm all for the refurb, I know it needs it....but since I didn't know how much different they were making it I wanted to make sure we got our fix....

so THANK you disney! for letting me ride again this year!

I was hoping that it would be open on our trip in May. Oh well, it will give us another reason to go back as soon as it's done.

7 or 8 months doesn't seem long enough to gut and rebuild a roller coaster. Also, I would think that if it were a completely new ride, there would have been more of an annoucement than a simple rehab report.

Conversly, 7 or 8 months seems too long for retheming. It's a dark ride....there is no themeing except the queue.

I hope they at least remove the video cameras on the exit ramp, I like to keep moving and everyone stops to make faces.

seven to eight months is enough time to rebuild a rollercoaster, just think in terms of a seasonal park, when they announced maverick at Cedar Point, they started it in october and it opened in may that is just around 7 months, it can be done, espically since there are no environment factors that they have to deal with!

I am heartbroken. We only get to Disney every 4 or 5 years and now we won't get to ride Space Mtn until who knows when. This may seriously alter our MK time as none of us care for Splash Mtn (getting disgusting water poured on you and having your clothes stick to you - YUCK!) so basically there are about 4 rides there we "must do" now and we don't like the restaurants there nearly as much as Epcot. I'm saddened by this.

Why is the Splash Mountain water disgusting?

"Hey, look mum - we're on TV!" :upsidedow

It's been rumoured for a while, but I must say I'm glad we'll be able to take a few spins into space in April before it gets changed. :hippie:

Huh?
:confused3

Well, now we know!! It will be shut down before we arrive May 1. I'm a little disappointed because neither child was tall enough last trip, but DS would have been this time. Oh well - at least he won't know what he's missing!!! And, we may return at Christmas - this is another reason to (assuming it's open!!!).

Also hoping the TTA stays open , love it!

I am soooo happy!
I hope the refurb will be close or just like the one at D.L.
But in anycase, Kudos Disney for keep looking forward during a "slowdown" in business! Keep up the refurbs!
I am looking forward to our trip in 2011!

Closes 3 days before I get there....waahhhh. Any chance it will be late getting started?

I just saw this!!!! Space Mountain closed for refurbishment 4/19/2009-late 2009 I'm going in Sept. Dh and I were bummed cause we had fastpasses for Space Mountain our last trip but right as we walked up to the fastpass entrance, I kid you not, at least (not exhaggerating) 100+ pop warner kids were going on fastpass space mountain...would have taken just as long as stand-by so we decided to not go on! But we thought hey we are going in 9/09! boo hoo :sad2: :sad1: :headache:

As sad as I am that it won't be open when we go in August, I'll be excited to ride the new version.

I am definately going to enjoy it when I go in March.

:surfweb: I read on another board that space mountain was left out of the 2009 Disney vacation dvd which was taken as "evidence" that the rehab was gonna begin this year?

:confused3 anyone know if this is true? anyone seen the new DVD sans space mountain?

We got our 2009 DVD, and SM is not mentioned at all. It is pictured on the map in the included booklet, but not listed in the map legend.

Indeed; it is showing on All Ears now. I don't see it on Disney's official site, but they've dinked with the layout and it was never that easy to navigate anyway.

I guess it's official now. I'll hate not riding it this year (going in May and Sept), but it really needs a refurb. An eight month shutdown is shorter than we were expecting anyway.

Yay! While I adore the classic version, I can't wait to ride the updated one on our next trip!

But... does this mean no more "cookie" meteors?! Nooo!

WDW and the MK's 40th anniversary is just around the corner, so to speak... hopefully this will be the beginning of some major investments in the park. How many years has it been since the last E-ticket ride was added? I can't think of any E-tickets newer than Splash, and that was in '92...

We are up in the air regarding a 2009 trip and without a big discount (we are summer attendees) we will probably wait till 2010. Space mountain rehab would be a another nail in the coffin of an 09 tirp

I have the DVD and the map that came with it - no Space Mountain. The building is on the map, but it's not marked or identified in anyway.

The old one was a classic but it is time for an upgrade.

On our last trip in July, we only went to MK for 1 day and 3 different times during the day we were turned back because it was temporarily down. When they finally did re-open I have to say I was a little nervous going on. But as usual it was great. I liked the right side more than the left.
