Child swap is not done this way any longer, now that FP is on most attractions with a height restriction you get a "rider swap" pass instead. Offhand I think only Primeval Whirl and Dinasour still handle the child swap as you described.

On the others the first parent enters either the line and asks the CM for a rider switch pass. You all need to approach the line as the CM will need to verify that you have a child who dosen't meet the height restriction to get the rider switch pass. Then you can just take the child to do another attraction, eat etc. The second parent riding can return any time that day with up to three people total to ride.

Thanks for the update. I didn't know they changed it. The way you described it sounds like the better alternative. If we can keep our son occupied with something else, then one of us can ride SM without a problem.

When I was little my mom took me on the Wedway People Mover (now the Tomorrowland Transit Authority), while my dad took my older sister on Space Mountain. Part of the peoplemover goes through the line queue area of Space Mountain so for YEARS I insisted I had been on Space Mountain because my mom told me I had.

I suggest Dad taking him on the peoplemover while you ride Space Mountain. Tell him you went to the bathroom.

OR (may not be popular with people but...) let him have his temper tantrum. Do the child swap. Explain to him that he isn't tall enough to ride yet. Tell him that for being a good boy and waiting patiently for Mommy, that you will do something special for him afterwards (maybe an ice cream?)
