Space Mountain Mission 2 in Disneyland Paris is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the one in Florida! The one in Florida is AWEFUL compared to the one in Paris! The track is better...so is the rocket that you sit in AND it goes upside down, also the effects inside this one are so cool! Unlike Florida where you CAN actually see the track a bit and they have no special effects. I was in Disneyland last month and i rode it 11 times! :teeth: :earsboy:

I'll let you know in about 2 years after I finally get a chance to ride it! ;)

I can't wait to go.

Different strokes. Not every rollercoaster needs to be a high speed, inverted experience in my opinion. There's plenty of them (and that's great, I ride them - every one I've encountered). But, WDW's Space Mountian is an experience that permits more people to enjoy it, given its relative tameness. It's classic and has preserved its originality. I, for one, hope Disney doesn't abandon it in favor of a Paris-type replacement. "Better" is, of course, a relative term.

I haven't been to Paris yet, but I will say that the Disnyland version of Space Mountain is far better than WDW's ride. For starters, there is only one track and the entire complex is bigger and better. True the "mountain" itself at WDW is larger, but that's only to accomodate the two tracks.

Disneyland's ride has three lifts before blast off. The space port is a great touch. The complex also houses "Honey I Shrunk The Audience", "The Starcade" and "Redd Rocket's Pizza Port."

Oh yeah, and I haven't even gotten to the newly refurbished ride which I got to enjoy over the July 17 weekend. The track is so smooth and sleek, you really get the feeling that you are flying in outer space. It is much darker than before and the new soundtrack is awesome!

The only thing I really appreciate about the WDW version of Space Mountain is being able to see the inside lit up while in line after the ride breaks down.

DL Space Mountain rocks. Smooth track, good queue, different cars, and I like the soundtrack.

However, I still like certain aspects of WDW's version better (if only the track were as smooth). The ability to watch the space travelers zooming around and watching the other cars flying around you heightens the immersiveness in the story.

To tell the truth, the combination of the best of both versions would make the perfect Space Mountain.

Come on, me bucaneer friend, don't you agree that as a kid, there was a little bit of Bradbury flying around your head...a little "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" as you hurtled (or hurled as the case may be) through 'space' with other 'rockets' roaring and speeding around you?

The queue ends in what to me is supposed to be an 'interstellar spaceport' where you can see all of these 'ships' flying around above you. The dim lights, the tv screens, the control booth, the fact that the ride is in front of you....yet you can't really tell what's happening....increases the thrills for the young and the young at heart, without actually speeding up the ride beyond its tame MPH.

Space Mountain is more about fun than fast.

I believe it is more about a good neck cracking :)

All honors to our webmaster. But I do think that story and the ability to imagine are things that set apart Disney rides and distinguish them from simple thrill rides. The story on Space Mountain is thin, but it's much more than one finds on a straightforward roller coaster. All the coasters at WDW have stories except for the wee one in Toon Town, and it looks like story will be especially strong in Expedition Everest. It's the story PLUS the good neck cracking that makes this kind of ride wonderful.

I agree that the ride in Paris is much more "thrilling" but remember that the ride was constructed much later than the one in MK. The theme is also very different as it is themed ala Jules Verne.
If you are simply looking for thrills then there is no comparison but Disney is about combining story/theming and thrills. If you just want to be thrilled then there are many amusement parks that can fulfill that "nned"

Why is every coaster rated by the "puke" factor? I for one am glad they don't invert everything. Seems to me they are slowly taking away the "something for everyone" aspect so desired by Walt. IMO, balance is everything, and with consistant additions on "puke" rides that balance is getting skewed just a bit. Of course I say this as I am getting older, so maybe my opinion is skewed in itself! ;)

The Florida one is THE original...and why they haven't updated it in forever is beyond my comprehension...

I prefer the ones in WDW and DL as they do not go upsidedown as I don't like the thought of it!!. I have been on the one in Paris (but didn't realise that it went upsidedown it went so fast!!) However I was stuck on the one in Paris for 20 mins and it was not fun!!!

However I have not tried the new one in Paris. We are off to DLP in October and would like to know how different is the new ride in Paris to the old one?

Can anyone help as I am not sure I want to go if it worse than last time or Rock "N" roller coaster?

Many thanks.

Susan

The refit they did on the Paris SM, is much like what they did at DL - same track and essentially the same ride, but it's now a lot smoother and seems a lot faster (although officially I don't think it actually is, just the smooth ride makes it seem like it) and all new effects and music while you're on the ride.

Personally, having been on all three, I rate the Paris one #1, but only just ahead of the DL one. It's pretty close between the two for me. WDW's version is a long way distant #3. It throws me about so much and makes my neck hurt - I'd rather go upside down!
