Space flight....

I think sometimes as we see a shuttle launch or when they come back home, we get too complacent. It has gotten so routine to us. We forget the many, many dangers that these brave men and women face. The margin for error is so small. The world has seen again today, as we did 17 years ago, that there are no survivable mishaps with space flight. Or the chances of surving are so slim.

When STS 107 went up 16 days ago my office took a couple of minutes like we do everytime there is a launch during the day, and went outside to watch. As it flew overhead we waved and applauded. Then went back to out work. It never dawned on us that what we were seeing would never come back to earth as it left.

We take so much for granted in this world. Now I think we have been slapped awake by the loss of more heros. I will NEVER watch another launch again with the same feeling as before. I'll hold my breath and pray very hard... And I won't stop praying until the next brave crew is safely back home..

God Bless the families of the crew of STS 107.....We lost more heros today....but there are many waiting in line to fill the void. At least they will try.........

Good thoughts and words Tony.

Nicely written, Tony.... :o
So very sad :(

Yes Tony, very true. And I remember watching that launch and thinking it was the most beautiful day one ever. It was easy to see the danger in a launch as we were shown with Challenger. Just never thought about how truly dangerous re-entry is until once again it has been brought to our attention. So I'm with you that my prayers won't be over once the launch has been completed.

Thank you for putting into words what many must be feeling,:( and for bringing to my attention how I myself take many things for granted. I think it is moving that you and you co-workers go out and view each launch...I imagine that there are many who do not give it a second thought.

Thank you very much, Tony, for such very true words.

Nobody could be more complacent than me...when I woke up this morning Tommy and Kevin came in to tell me what happened...my answer was "there was a shuttle up there?"...I did not even know one had launched. Then I found out that the next launch was to have been on March 1, which is the day we sail on the Magic...having never seen a launch before I would so have loved to have been so close to one. :( I feel very sad and also guilty today...

(((((((HUGS)))))))))) Tony :)

Very true words.......and the song......well, I am just in tears :(

God Bless them.

Well said Tony, well said!

Much like Donna, I had no clue that a shuttle was even up there!

Yes Tony very well said. My MIL called crying She is a Cocoa Beach Resident. There is a certain pride in the people who live in this community. The whole space program is part of their life.

We have been very fortunate to watch day and night launches and also landings. Years ago we would plan our vacation around launches. They are very exciting to view. We never think of the dangers.

We will be heading down in 2-weeks. After a stay a Disney we are heading over to Cocoa Beach. We were there 6 weeks after the Challanger exploded. There is a sadness among the residence of this community whenever the Space Program suffers a lose, it's as if they have lost a brother.

We were planning a visit to the Space Center during our stay. Something my children and grandchildren always look forward too.

My heart goes out to the families of these brave men and woman who put their lifes on the line, for exploration into space.

A very sad day. :(

Tony,
Very appropriate words and the perfect song to accompany it.
