I was thinking of packing with space bags this year to minimize the amount of luggage we will be taking. The question I have is, you have compacted the items at home...how do you use the space bag on the way home? Do you ask for a vaccum cleaner at the resort??

Space Bags for Travel do not require a vaccum. They are similar to a ziploc except double sealed to help you squeeze and keep the air out. You really can get the same effect with a ziploc (rolling it towards the opening as you shut it), the advantage to the space bag is its size. I got a ton for free at my last job (we were a vendor) and they worked well for bringing laundry back home at the end of the trip. Didn't use them to much besides that. The ziplocs work great for separating outfits out on a per day basis.

My teens and I bought these when we went to London with the school band. Because of instruments, we were only allowed one bag each. These saved us. We got some from the Samsonite outlet and some from the Coleman Outlet. Buy more than you think you'll need because we had one that never worked properly (it wouldn't hold the seal).

They compress some things like fleece quite a bit. Other things like jeans or socks get no smaller at all. As mentioned above, if nothing else they're nice for isolating dirty things.

I've used them a couple of times since when flying on long trips.

we used the 2 gal ziplock/glad bags.......buy extra bc sometimes they pop...much cheaper than space bags...10 or so for $3 instead of $15 for 2...put the stuff in, close almost all the way, sit on, squeeze are out & close.
perfect.

We do the same as the PP - 2 gal bags for the adults and 1 gal for the little princesses. And we just keep them in the luggage so they can be reused each year. :)
