Do they do the type of massages that you'd get from a physiotherapy office - deep, muscle loosening ones that are painful, but really work?

I have some back pain and I don't want to get something that will make it worse, but a massage that will relax those muscles would be nice.

yes - they offer Swedish massage. DW thinks the ones you can get at SB on CC are the best, with the beach and waves right outside the massage cabin.....

I would think just about any massage would work and relax the muscles but there is nothing that is specifically labeled as Acupressure which I am thinking is what you might receive from a physiotherapy office.

My husband had the Swedish massage and was told she could go as light or as intense as he wanted. However, he told her that she could do more of a deep tissue massage and he said it felt like she was going real easy and light. Perhaps that will work out if you let the masseuse know that she can push harder.

Neuromuscular massage was what I had to have for many years after a car accident...sadly, massages in my experience are NOT relaxing at all and I avoid them.

Officially, they don't have anything like a regular therapy massage. I checked. I've been dealing with whiplash for a few years now. However, for me at least, cruise massages helped. Not quite like a therapy massage but enough to get me through. I found the one they do with stones better. They use the stones to massage you rather than their hands.

Good luck. I know what it's like. :)

That's the one. You're right, it's not relaxing, but the relief from pain is worth it if you need it.

Definitely worth it at the time. But soured my attitude towards "relaxing massage"
I have heard good things about the Hot Stone massage...maybe that would be a good option. :)

@FigmentSpark... I thought it looked good too and I am still considering having my husband try it and report back. Poor guy gets to be the test subject. :)

I've had the hot stone massage on several occasions (on DCL and at local spas) and I can confirm it is very relaxing. Prior to surgery, I had chronic pain issues and while this type of massage does not heavily target those pain spots, it relaxes your body enough to where you feel like a bowl of pudding (if that makes sense, lol). They put the very hot stones on your body, in the palm of your hands and it can really be quite blissful.

My only beef with the spa on DCL is that the prices are a bit high, the sales pitch for product puts me off and the skill level is mixed. I have had great experiences though and if it's possible, I highly recommend a day before the cruise massage. DH can be a bit high strung and getting prepped and packed with DS can be stressful, so taking that extra time to unwind and transition the day before has worked wonders for our vacation mode game.
