soy nut butter

Was just reading an article about using this as a substitute for peanut butter. It's made from roasted soy beans. DD has a nut allergy. I have never even noticed it in the stores.

Anyone ever used this with someone with a nut allergy? Says that it's produced in a peanut free facility.

I am going to have to check this out.

I have a DD with a peanut allergy and we use soy butter and sunflower butter as a substitute. There are different brands, so make sure to read the labels carefully. They are usually more expensive than pb ($4-$5 a jar) and do not have as much protein as pb, but are a great substitute. I use it in recipes too.

Trader Joe's has good brands of soy and sunflower butter that are a little more reasonable.

I haven't used it, but was wondering if your DD's allergy was peanut or tree nut. The company might process nut butters (almond, cashew) at the same place.

My daughter has a tree nut allergy as well as a soy allergy (and many others) so these kinds of butters don't work for us.

There is another butter made from sunflowers. I don't know what warnings might be on its package. But you could look into that if tree nuts are a problem.

DD's previous daycare used Sunbutter and all the teachers raved about the taste and said the kids loved it too.

Thanks! We don't have a Trader Joe's in our area......will have to look around though......maybe Greenlife or Earth Fare will have some.

please be careful giving Soy to a child with a peanut allergy vs a tree nut allergy-peanuts are NOT nuts-they are legumes-like beans and-peas-and soybeans-so there is a greater chance that a peanut allergic child will also have a soy allergy than a tree nut allergic child. ( Soy is NOT a natural human food-but thats a completely different issue)

Thanks! Will definately talk to her allergist first. She has an appointment in a couple of weeks. Her allergy isn't super sensitive. She has never had a reaction from being around peanut butter, nuts, etc. She had some lip swelling as a young child after having a couple of bites off a snack cake that had peanut butter in it. When tested the results showed peanut allergy, tree nut allergy.

Then definitely read the labels, some are made in the same facility as tree nuts.

Your regular grocery stores will carry some of these, but they tend to cost more...even the Super Walmart by us has a decent selection priced a little better.

Agreed! My DD with the peanut allergy is not allergic to soy products and can handle soybutter, but my DD9 who is not technically allergic to peanuts and tree nuts CANNOT handle soybutter and straight soy products. It's interesting~

My son has a peanut allergy. We've tried soy nut butters and Sunbutter. Neither are anything we like so we just do without.

We use sunflower butter as our peanut butter substitute. I am not a fan of too much soy in our diets.

We use Sunbutter too. I have baked with it and last Christmas made buckeyes with it. Dd loves it!
