Southwest Visa cardholders: Is there a catch?

I applied on Sunday and haven't heard anything yet. It said I would be notified within 10 days. I have excellent credit. I read somewhere else that they are turning people down who are currently using another Chase card with a promotion. I got a Chase Sapphire card about 4 months ago using a get 250.00 cash back promo. I just got my money back last week. Has anyone been turned down due to already having a Chase card with a promo? I'm really hoping for those free flights :worship:

Free flights + free dining = Good Times!!!

Oh no!!! My Disney points!!!
I forgot they were Chase! BOA owns everything else I have.
I'll get turned down just for "lying" to them.

I have been actively using my Disney/Chase card for years when I applied for Southwest. In fact, I had also applied about 2 weeks prior to Southwest for the Chase Sapphire (was looking for a card other than Disney points). Totally forgot that I had applied when I saw the offer for Southwest and decided I wanted that card. Just hope I didn't hurt my credit for applying for 2 cards in a matter of weeks...

Anyways, just pointing out that I have 2 Chase cards and still was approved for the Southwest card.

I think your score only goes down a few points for each credit check from a cc company. I really hope I can get these points. I'd like to get to MNSSHP with the free dining. The free airfare would clinch it for me!

I hope it will be the same for me. I worried when people were saying they were instantly approved online. But I do remember a few months ago with the Sapphire card they did the same thing. I applied online and it said I would know within 10 days and about a week later the card showed up in the mail.

I applied for the dv about a month ago (our second one) because I got the 200 dollar offer and then a couple weeks later applied for the southwest one, I got instantly approved for both so i dont know if that really matters if you have another one or not...got my reward card from dv now im just waiting for my southwest points post so i can look at flights and book. Anyone have insight as to how long that takes, it said 6-8 weeks or something but so did the dv offer and i received that card in the mail in less than two weeks. Just curious!

I just got home and had an e-mail that I was approved :cool1:

My DH got 3 offers in the last 2-3 weeks, and now that the 50,000pt offer came, we signed up! Now will have to wait to see if we got it. I wonder if the fact that we did a small balance pay off on another account could be why they don't approve/deny on the spot.
I could almost get the 4 tickets I need for next year with these points. :goodvibes

I applied last night! Hopefully I get it...I have 2 DV's and another old chase card that I didn't even realize I still had (haven't used it in years). I also forgot that my car loan is through Chase Auto. We really only use the one DV for our normal purchases and pay off monthly. Our other DV originally was to use in our home based business that we no longer have. Now we use that card soully for gas purchases (again paid off monthly). I really hope I get approved....I have a lot of available credit with Chase but no balances except for the car loan. If I get denied, hopefully the offer will still be available to apply in DH's name.

My husband applied for the card last night and was instantly approved. He should get his card within 2 weeks. He received an offer in the mail to sign up and get 50,000 points with a $69 annual fee and 3,000 Anniversary points. He decided to apply under the public offer which has a $99 annual fee because he will get 6,000 Anniversary points which is equal to about $50 in WGA fares.
We need to purchase tickets to fly home from DC the Sunday after Thanksgiving - the one way flight is over 28,000 points ($280)! :scared1: At least we won't have to pay for one of us. Every little bit helps.

It is actually worth $100; $1 = 60 points according to Southwest

I got rejected for this card at first--- but I called and talked about why. There was a misunderstanding about something in my credit report, and they ended up approving me over the phone! So, if you DO get rejected, you can call and "plead your case." I'm so excited--- the 50,000 points will cover our airfare for our disney wedding!

When I applied I was instantly approved. My card arrived last week. They gave me a SIGNATURE Visa!! :cool1: Now I get the added signature visa deals that I always read about! I've already bought plane tickets with it and have to buy two more tickets today. We're going to use the free points for our WDW trip next summer.

Don't worry if you don't get instantly approved. That doesn't mean it's a no answer. I also read on another message board that you can call them to inquire on approval and speed up the process that way. Sometimes the rep might have a person combine all chase account balances into one balance which the system likes better than having balances on each card. So the CS rep can help you get approved sometimes.

Call Chase at 888-245-0625 (Connects you directly with a credit advisor during business hours). Otherwise you might have to wait a couple of weeks before you get an answer (unless you had instant approval).

You can also check your credit score for free at http://www.creditkarma.com/

On another message board people were posting their FICO scores from CreditKarma and comparing the scores of those who were approved vs those who had to call to get approved vs those who were denied.

I just checked my husband's Chase online account and the SW Visa is already showing up - he just applied yesterday! Holy cow they are fast.
I wonder if he can use it for an onliine purchase so maybe he can get the points credited sooner. Off to investigate....

They do charge the $99 fee on your first statement. Just FYI.

I called tonight and got approved over the phone! I did close the old chase card we never use anymore and he moved that credit line over to the Southwest card. Woohoo :thumbsup2

My daughter and I are taking a Mommy & Me trip next November and we are now flying for free. I just wanted to thank all of you. Reading posts on this board is sometime the highlight of my day.
