just got a Southwest summer sale email...I got PVD to MCO for $104. Not nearly as good as the $49 sale they had going until 6/15, but better than the $122 they had a few weeks ago! Just changed my reservation and saved $36 :thumbsup2

Featured Destination: Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando - Get air fare specials from $44 to $134 one-way for travel beginning July 1, plus great deals on rental cars and hotels! (Additional taxes, fees, and conditions apply.)

update~I just checked our flights (as I do frequently to see if anything has changed) and noticed our flight to MCO has been lowered from $104 to $94!! Changed my reservation again and saved another $20 :cool1:

Just wanted to alert others to check your flights to see if the price dropped

Thanks, I just checked out SW site and from MDW to MCO $94 each way.
before with ding flying by june 15 it was $59. USA3000 round trip with all fees $163( 1 stop on the way home), AIRTRANS $203, AA $206. I think SW right now is about average with all the other airlines pricing for MDW. I think i will wait for a SW ding and decide.

I thought about waiting it out too and decided I could change it again if/when a Ding comes out. I could only get the $104 for one leg of the trip...the trip home was sold out of the $104 fares. I could extend it to the next day and get an early flight out for $104, but not sure if I should do that...decisions, decisions

I got the email as well. How does SW handle the rebooking? Did you call or do it online? My flight down is not available for the cheaper rate, but our return flight is.

Not great sale from PHL. was $109, now $94... The problem with booking and re-booking is SW has you. If other airline has a sale you are locked into SW prices. Also, the more people book at higher fare the less likely they are going to offer a good ding fare. BWI is still much cheaper for sw. I think August, despite the higher fuel, SW has plenty of room to discount.

I orginally booked 2 one way tickets...the sale price was only available for our PVD - MCO leg of the trip. I went to the Travel Center and clicked on change reservation. I entered the reservation number and it asked me to select another flight. I selected the sale price for the same flight I originally booked and it gave me a credit to be used another time. DH travels a lot for work on SW, so he will use the credit next time he books a business trip.

I agree that the prices are not great, but for my travel dates (8/30 - 9/3 labor day weekend) this price is the best I have found. I really like the times of our flights too, so I'm not really looking at other airlines for better prices at this point. It seems the Dings lately have been pretty restrictive on the days of the week and we are locked in to our dates because we are going on a cruise ~ I didn't want to risk not getting a better price than this.

I feel the same way and I also bought our tickets at the $104 each way for our trip August 22-Sept 5. The stress of checking and re-checking for lower fares is just not fun for me and now I can relax because I got the flight times I wanted.

One question: since I bought the internet special tix, if a Ding comes out for my flight dates, can I apply for a credit? I have never flown SW before.

my understanding is if a Ding! comes out, you weill need to first cancel your existing reservation, get a credit, then use the credit to book the Ding! fare. You need to be quick because sometimes the Dings sells out fast and you don't want to be stuck cancelling your original reservation then not get the Ding fare. I don't think you will be able to get a refund for the internet specials...whatever is left over after you purchase the Ding fare will be a SW credit to be used within one year.

There is a diser that posted a very detailed description on how to cancel and rebook a Ding fare...I will try to find it and post it here for you.

step by step directions on cancelling and booking a Ding fare ~ thanks to zurgswife:

Yup...here's what you need to do.

But I did it -- and it worked. Here are the steps I followed:

1] I found a great rate or DING for the exact flights that I wanted. In fact it was the same flights we originally had but for 1/2 the price. $39 ea way cannot be beat!

2] I picked my flights and went thru the process of 'booking' them right up until the point where it asked for form of payment.

3] In a seperate window I opened up my email confirmation from the original [higher priced] flight that I had booked with SW a month or so earlier.

4] I found my confirmation number [which is actually a combination of numbers and letters] on my email and wrote it down.

5] I scrolled down my confirmation email and found this information -
REFUND INFORMATION
For Southwest Airlines Refund Information please visit:
www.southwest.com/travel_...ation.html

You can skip the step #5 and just click on the link I have in step #6.

6] When I clicked on the link in #5 it brought up a page with this information -

If your outbound flight has not departed, you may submit a refund request:
online at southwest.com. To begin this process, you will first need to Cancel your flight Reservation. The words in bold are a link to cancel the original flight reservation.
Click on that link.

7] They will ask for your original Confirmation Number and the credit card holders name - as it appears on the card. This would be the card that you used for the original reservation.

To save alot of time. Have your confirmation number and credit card holder information in a handy spot at all times. This way you can grab it quickly if you get DINGed.

8] enter the information - and click 'Retrieve Flight Information'. At this point [in the next screen] you will be clicking to cancel your reservation. BUT - before I clicked to cancel - I went back to the DING window and checked to be sure my DING flights were still available.

9] after I was sure they were still available I clicked to cancel my original flight.

10] In the screen to book the new flight or DING flight I stated that I wanted to use funds that I had in reserve. [I'm not sure of the exact wording it used]. Here is where I entered the confirmation number from the original flight. It showed my new flight as paid in full and also showed my credit remaining on the original flight.

It sounds complicating but it really only took less than 5 minutes from start to finish.

Like the OP, I too am flying PVD to MCO in August. Rebooked the outbound portion of my flight and saved $54. Not much, but it's better than nothing. I'll be curious to watch these flights now and see if they start to fill up. I'm still hoping for a good Ding! as we get closer and maybe we can save more money...

FYI: Have flights for August at a higher internet rate than todays new rate of $104. Went to change the return flight and get the credit and it will not allow to be done. I called and they said it now CANNOT be done this way unless you cancel and rebook. Not possible due to RT tickets and outbound flight prices are now higher. This really stinks!. Dates are now flexible, just trying to get credit for future travel. I guess we have no choice but to book one ways and then cancel and rebook in the future. Yikes

This is a sale??? :confused3
Baltimore/Washington Int'l, MD
$81 one-way, to/from Orlando, FL

What makes even less sense is that you can still get promo flights for $79 one way! Looks like we'll be driving...

I was in a similar situation where my current fare for my return was no longer available. I called and had the agent I spoke to cancel my outbound only and make the funds available as a credit under the original confirmation number. My return flight was left as active on the original confirmation number.

While she was ding that, I started a new reservation for the lower fares and as soon as she processed the cancellation, I completed my new one and used the funds that just came available.

Everything worked just fine. I now have two seperate confirmation numbers for the outbound and return legs which will actually make it easier to make changes in the future if the price on either leg drops again. This will also make it easier to switch if a good Ding! comes up one one of the flights.

The difference between the original fare and the lower one is now available as a credit under my original conf number and is available for future use.

Give SWA a call and ask to do the same thing and I am sure it will work out for you.

i just booked at $94 a way..not the best deal but something i can live with. :cheer2: if i get a ding later...great..if not at least i can stop obsessing a bit and move on!

good luck to everyone that is waiting it out!!

I also found the great deal was not that great. In fact, there is no difference in price from what I paid with no special back in Feb for Norfolk. Still waiting for a DING.
