Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for obtaining (1) credit with southwest, short of a roundtrip flight. I only need (1) credit to obtain a free roundtrip ticket but already have travel plans for this entire year planned. (Driving to Orlando to stay off site in April and 15th Anniversary trip in Sept w/husband to Hawaii on skymiles earned w/Delta. I thought about the Southwest credit card but I would have to pay the annual fee of $59, which wouldn't make it "free". Any help???? :confused3

they have hotel and car rental partnerships that earn credits. check the rapid rewards section of the Southwest website.

They just had the special Fly 3 get one. From Sept 15 to Dec 15th if you had 3 round trip flights you got a reward and keep all your credits. We got them.

American Express rewards points can be exchanged for SW Rapid Rewards. I think the exchange rate is 1500 AE points for 1 SWRR. Hope this helps.

There are a few car rental programs that will give a double credit; car rentals are normally .5, so the code will get you one. You can even rent a compact with Dollar, try code WN40. Just rent it for the weekend at an office near your home.

Hertz and Alamo are other SWA rental partners, but you have to rent larger vehicle classes to qualify.

Check the "partners" section of RR on the SW website. I know recently you could get triple credit for a stay at a Choice Hotel (1.5 instead of .5).

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions.

I hadn't thought about the hotel partners, since we will be driving from Kentucky to Disney in April. We plan to drive straight thru going but were considering a hotel for (1) night on the drive back. I'll look into hotel partners for that (1) night and hope for double credits.

I like the car rental idea too, that would not be "free" but much cheaper than the Southwest credit card annual fee.

We have the American Express card but earn miles rather than points. Does anyone know if miles can be traded too?

It's hard to believe that Southwest would actually eat the (1) credit but not
surprising since they have been so easy to work with otherwise.

BYOUNG: How did you know about the "fly 3 get one free" promotion? Was it listed on their website?

I see a "free" roundtrip flight in my future thanks to all of you.

If you want the real skinny on all the possible ways to pick up credit, see the Rapid Rewards forum on flyertalk.com
