my southwest flight is now $40 less. HOw do I go about getting a refund for this amount? Can't really find out how on their website. Thanks for any help!

You don't get a refund, you get a credit in that amount. You will have to use it to fly somewhere within 1 year of the original booking. To get the credit, just pull up your account and click on change reservation, then follow the steps to "change" your reservation to the same flight at the lower price.

You can't get an actual refund, but you can book the lower fare and the difference will be given to you in travel credit that can be used on another flight within one year of original booking.

Go into your itinerary through the website- you should have an option to "Change Flights". You can select the same flight with the new flight and process the transaction.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along to clarify if you need it :)

You can only get a refund if you purchased a refundable (business or anytime) fare. Following the steps provided by the two posters above will get you a credit which, as they said, needs to be used up (not just to pay for a new fare, but the flight completed) within one year of the original purchase date. The credit has to be used by the original fare holder, it can't be transferred.

If you won't be able to meet those two criteria, it doesn't really seem worth processing the change.
