I would not give up that easily. Call SWA and explain the situation and get a definitive answer from the airline directly. We had an issue with a ticket at one point in the past and the airline corrected the ticket on their end and they resent me the information via email. We fly they exclusively to Florida. LUV SWA....they will help you if it is possible.

children don't show ID - so if they won't let you change the name, just bring the other child. The only time it would be an issue is if you're changing genders, and even then, sometimes the name is ambiguous. (ex: Morgan, Taylor, and for my Johnny Cash fans, Sue)

Please note in the first linked article that it says you can change the name on a ticket if you are willing to pay the fees and any fare increase. This is not changing the name on a ticket. What you are actually doing is canceling your ticket and getting a credit, less the change ticket fee (charged by most airlines; averaging $200 for a domestic ticket). Any remaining funds can be used to buy a ticket for someone else.
The 24 hour change fee with no penalty does not apply for some airlines when you buy a ticket within a certain amount of time before a flight. Check your airline's rules.

The only way around this is to allow the funds to expire, then request an extension which last time I did cost $75. You are then given a LUV voucher which can go in anyone's name.
