Southwest question

Are the seats for Southwest the same width as they are for Delta/Spirit? The reason I ask is because I have never flown with them and we have a plus sized person with us. This person fits in these seats just fine and will more than likely be sitting with children on either side from the family. I'm concerned about this customer of size thing I read about. They expect people to purchase the extra seat, which I can understand if the person is really large and can't fit. This person can fit in the seat on the other aircraft. Just looking for someone who can comment on how the width of southwest seats is compared to other airlines. If it's the same then there won't be any reason to worry. Sorry if it's a silly question...

Not a silly question!

And they are similar in size. If they can use the regular seat belt then thats even better. You should bring the extension if that is needed. I think if you request it, you'd likely get charged? :confused3 Meanwhile, the middle seat does have fold up arms (both sides) for after takeoff and that gives a bit more room. As far as SW goes, they will likely not say anything IF a "scene" is not made, just sit on down and enjoy the flight. We fly them rather exclusively and they are great!
have a wonderful trip!

Great, that's what I was hoping. No seat belt extension needed either! I got worried when I read their policies. I understand it for some reasons, but I was wondering just how far they take it. I'm hoping to enjoy their service! I'll let the other person know to relax a little. Thanks for helping!

At 17" wide, SW seats are almost an inch narrower than what you'd find on Spirit (17.8") and just a bit smaller than a typical Delta seat (17.2").

If my friend needed to buy an extra seat, so would most people in America considering our obesity epidemic. And I have yet to see anyone buy an extra seat on any flight. Last time we went to WDW on Spirit, a man was physically in my husband's seat and he had to cross his arms and hold his elbows the entire flight but he didn't have to buy an extra seat. I guess that's why I asked. If people have witnessed southwest enforcing this policy all the time to people who don't need an extension and fit in the seat (although probably a little squished), that's what I'm curious about. Thanks for the reply!!
