Southwest Prices This Year To Disney

We go to Disney every year in Sept from San Antonio and I have NEVER paid more than 130 dollars each way. More often than not, 79 each way. Prices started out this year at 178 each way for August, and haven't gone done. Do you think I should buy them now (186) or do you think they will go down. I know I can get a credit, but I would rather pay less out of pocket. We are at the 136 days out. Thoughts?

I am having the same problem/debate. We fly out of ME usually, and are considering driving down to Boston to cut cost, but the flights in Aug are still sky high! Even out of BOS. So... Not sure what to do. I am waiting, with the hope that they will go down. We still have a little over 3 months. Good luck, hope it works out for both of us.

Fuel prices are rising at an alarming rate and I don't foresee them coming down. If anything, the price of airfare is going to continue to rise. I think that the days of >$100 one-way fares is going to be a thing of the past very soon.

If your dates are set in stone and you know that you will be flying Southwest again within a year of your ticket purchase, then go ahead and buy them now. The great thing about Southwest is that they don't charge you to change your ticket if their price goes down or you want to change dates/times. If it's a Wanna Get Away fare, you don't get a refund but you do get a credit that can be used within a year of ticket purchase.

As an alternative to spending all that $$$, you might want to look into the SWA credit card that Chase is offering. There is a thread about it buried somewhere on here. They are giving 50K in Rapid Reward points when you get the premier card. That would be the equivalent of $833 in Wanna Get Away fares. You would have to pay an annual fee of $99 but for what you get back in the bonus, that's not a bad trade off.

I saw the other day that my coke rewards has $20 southwest credits available now. If you do my coke rewards, or if you buy coke and can start collecting that night help.

We're going in September - same thing. Usually $69 each way, but this year the cheapest I found was $135 each way and that was a few weeks ago. I debated whether to book or not and 2 weeks ago I booked, figuring I can rebook if the price is cheaper and take the credit. On the way down, within 2 days after purchasing, it went up $20/ticket and now it's up $42/ticket. On the way home, it only went up $3/ticket so far. Based on what I'm hearing, I highly doubt it will be cheaper anytime soon. So if I were in your position, I'd book and then look to rebook. I check about 3-4 times per week to see if it came down, and so far, nada. Good luck!

You can always rebook if the rate goes down. I did that twice so far with my reservations. We are booked at $1,050 something for four adults nonstop round trip to Orlando. We leave next month from Denver. Keep in mind that the price you are looking at now INCLUDES all taxes and fees! That might be part of the reason that the fares look so high to you.

We are going in June and flying out of Chicago...I can usually get flights under 100.00 (we fly on Tuesday/Wednesday) but I just booked flights for 158, and 212 each way...my fingers are crossed that the prices will come down and I will bew able to re-book....

I would buy now. I have airfare booked for June and October and it has only gone up since I bought them on opening day.

SW prices have gone way up this way. A few years ago we were paying $69 each way pp. Last year it was probably $89 each way. This year we are paying $130 one way and $135 the other way. Huge jump. Prices haven't gone down at all since we booked. In fact, both my flights are now $138 pp.

I read on a post a while back that Southwest had purchased fuel reserves and were able to offer lower prices than other airlines. Now that reserve is gone.

this is why we are driving down this year! prices are to high to fly 5 of us. Driving is way cheaper and we are making it part of our trip this wear.

I would book now. We have been stalking airfare fron So Cal for months now, and it is just going up. I even used some websites that "watch" the fares and make recommendations. There is a lot of talk about airline revenues being down and the increased fuel costs, etc. There is less competition in air travel now, so more cash to fly. We used priceline last year to HI and saved 50%. So glad we did as my parents did not and paid over $1000 from LAX-LIH. We have done that trip before for $300.

I'd been watching the cost of flights for months. We booked DCL in 10/10 for this June but DH didn't get leave approval until late February.

I finally saw prices drop on Southwest (before he got leave granted), so I jumped on it and bought hoping it would all work out okay. Within hours the price had gone back up!

The flights I paid $790ish for are now $1510. Eek!

It's crazy! We probably would have driven if I hadn't decided to take the risk when I did.

I think those cheap flight days are long gone...
Two years ago and before, I got $59 one way Rochester to MCO on Airtran for a total of $140 round trip.
Now, the cheap tickets are $125 each way- a bit under $300 round trip. doubled, plus some. And baggage fees! GAH!!!

We're taking our family- ten of us- on a beach vacation this week where we drive. Saving thousands over a Disney trip, even with gas over $4 a gallon....

I was in the same boat. Had our vacation booked in June and resigned to driving down but on a whim last week decieded to check again. I was able to book for round trip $160 on United out of Louisville! I will say that they went like hotcakes and I had a hard time getting them since everytime I picked a time it would be sold out. We also got my parents tickets from Columbus for $160 too. Now the same tickets are almost $400!! So it is possible you just may have to check often.

I had the same problem. I have never paid more then $200 for a flight from Chicago to Orlando. Now tickets are almost $300. I tried to get 3 tickets for less then $700 now I am lucky to get cheaper then $900. I have decided to drive down this year. Even with expensive gas prices, with my new car I can get down to Orlando for less then $150 one way. I hate putting the miles on the car, but to save $600 I will do it!! I keep checking air fares, but I don't think I will find any cheaper.

Same situation. We are cruising in Sept and hitting US for one day. I have friends coming and have to keep saying.. "Maybe" they will go down?? lol Fingers crossed

Prices haven't gone up, but haven't gone down either.... I guess the tickets out of Austin are 128, so I should buy there and see if it comes down enough to switch to San Antonio. 181pp each way is just insane!
