Southwest Person of size question

It is nice to have a variety of airlines to choose from, that way if you don't like their policies (and most DO have them for people of size) then you can select the one that suits you.
SWA is the least expensive for the most part. You may get a lower fare on another airline (doubtful) but, you do have to pay for your luggage (on most), online check in, seat selection etc. on others. There are a lot of fees on others that SWA simply does not have.
My size is not and never will be an issue, but, I can tell you, if someone is edging onto my seat with their bottom or shoulders, I will not be happy about it.
I have had flights where the arm rests have come down, but, their bottoms have overflowed into my seat. Frankly, I don't do "cheek to cheek" with anyone I do not know.
Bottom line, if an airline does not suit you, pick another, but, I do wonder what good it does for anyone to have folks complaining about something you never use.

Size isn't an issue for me either. BUT...

Sorry to shatter your illusions of the cult of Southwest, but it really ain't all that.

Going down at Christmas I have a less expensive by over $100 NON-STOP flight on Continental. I have my seat number already - got to select it at no charge. I will be able to check-in online at no charge (only the other little cult-like carriers have I ever heard of being charged for checking in online...none of the big 4). I hardly ever check bags, but if I have to, my bag's free because I've got my check card with Continental rewards. So...much less headache, much less travel time (just under 3 hours), and much less money. Going home in August, same deal. Flying Delta non-stop. Again, no fee for checking in online or choosing my seating at the time of booking. Possibly a checked bag fee, but then again as I said, I don't check bags if I can help it anyway. And it's a less than 3 hour flight as well. If I was possessed by an alien and decided to take Southwest either way, I'd be paying more for a ticket AND traveling for 8+ hours because of layovers.

And my parents, who for some reason used to be in love with Southwest, have seen the light too. They were looking for Christmas flights from where they live. Used to be non-stop. NOW Southwest has decided they'd have to go through Midway, Baltimore or New Orleans, making their flight 8 hours. They're driving. Sometimes the supposed discount just isn't worth it.

to each their own. I happen to love SWA, and have flown other carriers many, many times. I do know that out of LI, there are non stops to FL. Also, you are talking around Christmas, horrible time to travel anywhere.
I flew Airtran to Indy, great price, great flight, but, they charged to make a seat assignment online. This was back before bags were charged, so, I cannot address that issue.
I did not say every airline was charging these fees, I said many.
You don't incur baggage fees cause you don't check luggage, great, and you have some sort of deal with Cont. also great, but, the average person does check luggage and does not have "deals" with airlines.
It is truly a matter of preference and shopping for the best deals.
