Southwest - New Dates

Just wondering if anyone knows, is it possible to get a credit or refund from Southwest if a booked flight's price has dropped since the time puchase?

Some people have been able to get a CC refund but it appears to be hit or miss.....worth a try though.

You can get a refund in the form of a credit for future travel. The credit is valid for 12 months.

I just phoned them and she said they are opening the next schedule on Jan 31st but she did not know how far it was opening to.

Hi all, As a person who air travels once in a blue moon I am really lost when it comes to all this! However, this board has been very helpful and I have learned a lot!

My question is traditionally how low can I expect fares to go if I wait a little longer. I am going in October of this year. I have found flights with Airtran out of Detroit direct to Orlando for the exact dates I want. The price is $189.00 US.

Is this as good as it gets realistically and should I just go ahead and book? I have read with Spirit you can get flights for $39.00....

Hi Maggie ... If you book from Southwest and are planning on going again within a year, you can book at anytime, then change it as the price drops. Only problem is you have to use the credit within 1 year from when you first booked.

Thanks MJ...good to know but I don't travel often...I was in WDW in May 2006 with my 3 younger girls ( 15 yr old triplets!) and just flew out of Pearson...

This new trip is with my oldest daughter (26) and will be it for travel for awhile......have to start saving for the girls education

After reading some other comments on other boards it seems that my price is not too bad and it is for the times and dates I want plus it is direct....so I will probably go ahead and book and then I don't have to worry anymore...everything else is in place!
We are spending 5 days at WDW Pop century,,,,4 days at Hard Rock Hotel and then an Eastern carribean cruise

Sounds like a fantastic trip Maggie... I can see your point if you don't travel that often. I usually book at a rate that sounds good, then I cancel if the price drops and rebook. I figure if I use the credit great, if not, I'm not really out the money as I would have spent it anyway.

Southwest seems to be $99 each way mid week so $198 is about the same as long as it is return price. We flew Southwest last year March for $49 each way, we booked 2 months in advance. So not sure how that works. Do they drop the prices the closer to the date you are?

We got $69 pp each way on SWA for non-stop flights about 4 weeks out from our February 9-17 trip. We only planned our trip in October, so I was watching the prices from then on and knew when that fare came up that that was as good as it was going to get, and booked it. The price stayed at $69 for a few days, and then when enough people booked (I guess) it started going up and up, and has doubled and then tripled what we paid since. I found the best prices would first come up with SWA on a Sunday afternoon/evening.

I should let you know we had a backup plan to drive if the price didn't come down to what we were prepared to pay, so I didn't have the pressure of having to book no matter what. It was kind of nice to be able to watch the fares without the pressure!
