SouthWest is offering 50K points Credit Card again

Got these the end of 2013. For anyone that runs a business, even a home based business, you can get both a personal card and a business card. That gave me 100,000 points. 10,000 additional in spending/a nice promo with 1800Flowers, and next month I will have a companion pass for the rest of this year and 2015. That means my son gets to fly for free with me wherever I go on Southwest. We did this as we live far from family, so it saves us a LOT. Not to mention all the points we now have racked up :yay: Just rebooked my flights for Disney on Tuesday because they were having a fare sale and the cost in points for my tickets went down. Saved 3700 points.

Just thought I would share, as this may work for some of you too.

Oh now I am really annoyed they changed our closing date. It was 3/7 but when I checked yesterday all of a sudden it was 3/26! I guess I just have to hope the points do show up 3/28 and I can scramble and book before 3/31. Ugh!!

I am also scrambling to try and receive my points before the Southwest schedule opens up for the fall dates next week.

I met my $2k requirement in the 1st two weeks after receiving my card. I have not received my 1st statement. It currently states online that my next payment is due April 1st. Does that make the 1st my closing date?

I will keep everyone posted on when I receive my points. My fingers are crossed it will be immediately after my 1st statement in the very near future!

:woohoo:

Waiting for my points to show up also. Got card 2/3 spent the $2K and my statement closed after like16 days. Only had my $ spent points show up. Next pmt is due 3/13 hoping the points show up then. I check like 5x a day:surfweb: Was really hoping it would be there before fares open up on 3/3.::hourglass

I'm in the same boat. I thought I allowed plenty of time between meeting my requirement (Feb 6th) and when fall flights will be released (March 3rd) but now I'm biting my nails. Going to call SW today and see if I can make some noise and get it expedited. I mean I could literally drive from the east coast to the west coast and back, TWICE, in the time that it's taking to get my points awarded to my account. Why???
Closing date us usually a few days after your next payment due date. My payment due date is March 6th and closing date is March 9th.
Fingers crossed for all of us!!! Keep us posted. I will too!

Okay, I just applied for a card for myself and one for DH (100k pts, right???). For some reason, he got a lot higher limit than mine, even though we both have exceptional credit scores (mine is actually a tiny bit higher), we both make about the same amount, and we both have the same other debts....not sure what that's about, but whatever.

We are planning to fly down to Florida mid-late summer. It looks like it is taking a while for points to go through. Should I go ahead and book our flights or wait it out? We will definitely have other opportunities to use of points, but it sure would be nice to get a break this summer.

Well, don't try calling Chase Southwest Cust Service # on a weekend unless you've got lots of time to kill...... Just spent 20mins waiting to speak to someone. Had to hang up because I just couldn't stay waiting any longer. Will try again Monday.

I will be asking them why a large percentage of people on these forums report getting their points in a few days after statement closing and then there are the unlucky ones, like me, who wait for WEEKS? Do they review a certain number of new applicant's accounts and reward the points to *some* and then just make the others wait??? I just want to know!! Doesn't seem fair that it obviously IS possible to get your points very quickly but only for some, not for all? What's the deal??? :confused3 Not asking for preferential treatment, just to have my account managed the same as others are!!!

Interesting discussion...

I completed my $2000 purchases and paid everything off yesterday, even though the billing cycle closes 3/6. I called SW and asked how long till my reward points show up and they told me 30 days after the closing of the billing cycle.

So here I am, I have met my requirement of purchases, I have no balance, my flights are becoming available on March 3 and I won't get the points until April! :confused3

Not a happy camper. Any ideas?

I am going to call Monday (tried today but they must only have one poor soul in the call center bc I was not getting thru and the music was making my head spin) I wanted to request a review of my account on the basis that others (here on dis) have filled the requirements in the exact same time frame as I did and they HAVE had their points weeks ago!! (I met requirement on Feb 7th and closing was Feb 9th. Still no points!)
If I have to I will ask to speak to a supervisor or be transferred to someone who is better qualified to handle my inquiry.
As a last resort I was going to offer to DRIVE to wherever my points are being held hostage, pick them up and manually DRIVE them to wherever my Rapid Rewards Account is headquartered. It may prove to be faster than the electronic transfer process. Pony express would have been faster at this point!!!!!
All sarcasm aside, I just want to be treated fairly, not be a part of the "unlucky few" group!

I've never heard of any CC rewarding points before the closing (statement) date. It was your choice to pay off the balance early, but that has no bearing on the CC company giving you the rewards. No matter what, the statement has to generate for the month.

In my case, the points showed up in my RR account a few days after the statement closing date....even though they say to allow 6-8 weeks.

I am beginning to believe this is the case with the majority of people. This makes me wonder if there is some other factor at play with my account. Like maybe the 50k promo I signed up under was never attached to my account???

OK I was bored so...... I called Chase SW card again. 20 min wait again. Finally a rep came on the line and I literally jumped and forgot what the call was about for a split second. Here is the deal according to this particular rep (what you are told may vary... as we all know)

The reason my points are taking so long is because I didn't reach my spending requirement until a few days before the Feb 9th statement closing. So THAT pushed it up to the closing for the NEXT statement. I told him that a person on this forum reached her requirement just a week before her closing and her points showed up just days after closing. CandyMouse on this thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3231835&page=2 He replied "If that is true then it was a miracle"
Bottom line.... no way to expedite it. The process for my points being awarded began on Feb 10th, so it should be done "processing" by this coming statement closing date (March 9th) and I should have the points available in my RR account by March 11th-15th. I shouldn't expect them sooner.

I asked why the "processing" takes so long. He said that bc the 50K points promo is a once in a lifetime offer, they have to check everyone with your same name who ever had a SW card, so they don't mistakenly award you a 2nd 50K promo. It was on the tip of my tongue to tell him about all the many persons here on the dis who have had the 50K promo numerous times by canceling their card and then signing up again later..... but I let it go. He's was already at his limit hearing about my "disboard forum intellect" :rotfl2:

Do you have a time limit to use points? If I apply now, can they be used next year for us to go in Aug 2015?

I'm so glad I was one of the "Miracles" and I've never had a SW card! Lol!! I'm so sorry for the people who didn't get their points right away, but I really think you should get the points by your next statement. :goodvibes Good Luck! pixiedust:

LOL :wave2: I'm glad you found this. I was going to post it to you on that other thread!

Okay, I am sorry if this has been asked. I searched, but I can't find the information. I just applied and got the Southwest card. I did not have a rapid rewards account when I applied, so I didn't have a number to put on the application.

How will I get my points? I just signed up for a rapid rewards account, but I can't find a way to link it to the new credit card. I'm really confused, and I just want to make sure that I don't miss out on the 50,000 bonus points!!!

Does anyone have experience with this? I don't have the card yet...it is still coming in the mail. Will the information be with the card mailing?

I have some mention 3/31 and using points by that date. Is something changing that day. We are due to get our points by the middle of the month.

we are moving our trip up from sept to first week of may! I hope my points come in soon! I spent the limit just waiting 3 more weeks for the statement to close, might call one more time to see if they will move it up.

:wave2: Remember to keep us updated when you do get your points.

CandyMouse- Not an update on *points* but I WAS able to book our flight down (one way) as soon as the flight schedules were released this morning. I had 47K in points from a transfer from Chase Sapphire Preferred. So enough to cover at least the trip down. :dance3: Wanted to grab that one bc that was the ONLY non-stop morning flight out of Phila. It arrives at 9:10am, which is great bc my guys wanted to do 18 holes of Disney golf in the afternoon and DD and I are going trail riding in Ft Wilderness. The other fights that morning are with a stop and plane change and arrive close to or after 1pm, which wd make golf a "no can do". The 5 flights added up to only 36280 points total! I got the Early Bird check in bc we are such newbies to air travel and I wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible.
So I am VERY happy that I was at least able to secure this flight with our current points. Hoping hoping hoping the 8:40pm flight we would love to have coming home doesn't sell out before I get the 50K Southwest promo points awarded to my account (the 11th-15th) What do you think the chances are of that happening?
