Southwest Holiday Season Released Today

SW lowered their prices again. I just booked flights for our early December trip.

Flights out of Philly during the time I wanted (9:35) sold out on dec 7 within hours of opening.... I just checked recently and December 8 and 9 at 9:35am also sold out!!!

So I booked for dec 6, and luckily a 1bd SSR available. I also booked a room at yatch club. I'll decide in September (banking month) which location I prefer . We are staying dec 7-13 at BWV.

I cannot believe SW out of Philly is so popular!

AA has decent prices to/from Philly as well.

SW prices are crazy the past few releases from BWI (and I monitor them almost daily). I have a trip planned in Sept. and another one planned in January. Naturally on both I've had my trip dates split between 2 different releases for coming and going. For my departure on my Sept. trip I managed to snag $85 and $72 for DH (I'm going down on a Sun. a few days early for a conference and he's meeting me on Wed. evening). When our return date was released the best I could do was $132 pp for a non-stop evening flight. Then I booked on May 18th for our Jan. 3rd departure. The release times are never consistent. I got up & checked at 6:30 and they weren't there yet. I checked again at like 7:10 and they were there but the best price I could do for a morning non-stop was $132 pp. And that was for the FIRST flight of the day (@ 6:15 AM which I really didn't want THAT early). I keep watching for any drops on any of the later flights but nothing so far. Now I need to book our return for Jan. 8th when they're released on June 22nd. I am dreading the "what if I miss the first few minutes of pricing" thing. With how high they've been lately tho I am already preparing that the days of under $100 pp are GONE. And it's crazy because earlier this year I was able to book some flights for my son over his college spring break for $50 or less each way. Not sure what happened all of a sudden with their prices...

We HAVE flown Jet Blue as an alternate carrier one way on another a few times but their flight schedule in & out of BWI typically sucks - especially lately. They only have 1 direct flight / day and it's RARELY at a time we're OK with (For example the ONLY direct flight on Jan. 3rd is at 6:00 PM - $90 w/o bags / $113 with one bag so I COULD book 2 of us w/o bags and one of us WITH and save money over SW but that would be wasting our entire first day.) Simarily their only direct return flight is at 8:20 AM - which again, would cause us to lose our entire last day. It's only a 5 night trip - I am not looking to waste an entire day by arriving late or leaving early. We like to go early and stay late on our shorter trips. More bang for our bucks. I guess I'm going to have to go back to checking all 3 of the airports in the DC area (we prefer BWI tho).
