Got 50K points for getting Credit Card. Through May 1 I now have about 75K points through rental cars and credit card use. I see it takes 110K points in a calendar year to get a free companion pass for 1 year, right? So if I get that 110K in December, do I get free companion Dec 2014 thru Dec 2015??

Do points earned through there Southwest Shopping area count toward companion?? I need a new $800 water heater via Sears.... if I buy at Southwest shopping it is 2 points per $ spent... 1600 points toward my 110K goal helps. Plus I can use my SW CC for $800 more points....

To be honest, I don't know much about it, but I do know that the pass is a frequent topic on the Boarding Area travel blogs. here are a few that may answer your current and future questions, and provide you a contact to ask further questions (the bloggers are great and will respond to email questions).

Deals We Like is a big user of this pass and created a help series titled:
Southwest Airlines Companion Pass Blog Series

Here is another series on the Southwest Rapid Rewards program and links directly to the Companion Pass entry.

If you need more, just Google Boarding Area and Southwest Companion Pass to get the entries.

Good luck and congrats!! :thumbsup2

Yes, points through RR shopping count, as do dining, points you can "purchase" with Best Western and other hotel loyalty points, etc. The best way to do it though is to apply for the other card (either premier or plus) and collect an additional 50,000+ after spending $2000 on that card.

The pass is good through the end of the calendar year and the next calendar year. Good luck! I should have mine within the week :thumbsup2
