OK - let me clear this up in my mind. If I book flights for $180 now, then they go down to $69 next month, how would I change my flights? Is it easiest to just book the $69 flights, and let the system default the $180 payment into a credit that I can find/use in the future? Or, do I have to get my original flights changed, with the balance left as a credit? Or . . . what's the easiest way to do this? :confused3

1st make sure you book o0ne-ways . It's easier to make changes.

2nd if it's just a sale or any other price or flight change Except a Ding. You just go to the travel center and make the changes there and you get the remaining balance in the form of the TTV for 1 year from date of original purchase. This is very easy to do and is step by step.

3rd if it's a Ding then you have to cancel the original flight and book the Ding using the TTV from the original. The remaining balance will remain on the TTV.This can be done several ways but opening 2 different windows makes it a lot easier.Other option is to call SW and and get them to cancel the flight while you have the Ding pulled up and get ready to book the Ding once they give you the OK that the original was canceled

was just about to ask the same ???- ;)

It is very easy to change your flight rate on SW without cancelling your reservation. There is a "Change Reservation" option availalble under travel tools.

I just recently booked a flight with a fare over $200 and was able to get a $189 fare yesterday. I changed my reservation and now have credit in the form of ticketless travel funds to use on my return flight. No fuss, no muss. :thumbsup2

Even on a round-trip fare, you can change just one leg at a time without cancelling the entire reservation. The only exception to this is DING fares. Those are handled entirely differently and will result in a cancellation of a reservation.

I just did this today with the ding fare. I booked the ding fare all the way up to payment. Then I opened a second window and cancelled the other flight. Then I went back to the ding window and applied the SW credit I just received. I saved $360 because of a $39 ding fare (and six tickets) so I still have $360 in SW credit to use by next September. (after paying for the "new" tickets) I was stressing....but it was VERY EASY!
