Worth it, or too good to be true?

We will be traveling Nov 1-4th and need 2 tickets. I would be purchasing mine, and paying for my husbands later after the rewards pts come through. There is a possiblilty my husband may not be able to come, in which I would ask my mother. Just wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences with this.

It's not too good to be true. But if you look around you may find the Southwest credit card deal offering 2 free flights, not just one.

Please note that they're giving you Rapid Rewards points, not trips. The number of points they give you should be enough for a free ticket though. Since a trip to Florida may cost fewer points than a trip to the West Coast, depending on where you're originating, you could end up not having to use all the points given to you for the free ticket.

It is also worth noting that you and DH can EACH have a card, so long as you are not "joint" or authorized users on the other's card and get DOUBLE the incentive [i.e. if the offer is 2 tickets, then you would get 4!]

The only downside is that you get spoiled for having to pay airfare....:rotfl:

I actually think its a great card. We've had it for almost a year and I have used my miles on both Southwest and transfered them to Airtran. I like that when you book on miles and the price of the fare goes down you can change your flight for the lower prices fare and get the difference in miles back.

I already have a SW credit card so I had my husband sign up for one in April, the deal at the time was for 50,000 RR. We went online on 4/24, it came in about 2 weeks, we used it right away and paid the bill on line before the statement ever came. Just before Memorial day the points were in my husbands account and we booked 2 flights for my trip in October. We still have over 24,000 RR left, it will be more than enough for 1 more flight.

It's definitely not too good to be true, but as others have noted, the deal has in the past been better. I got the 50,000 RR point deal a few months back and got 4 round trips for our August disney trip for about $200 (which included the $69 annual fee and buying the remaining points I needed). When you consider that I would have paid $200+ per ticket plus $100 bag fees for 2 bags each way, that's a $700 reward just for appying for a credit card. :cool1:

This is one of the best deals around, airfare-wise. :thumbsup2 DH and I both got cards in April (?) when they were running the 50,000 point special. So far, DD has flown to Detroit, and this weekend I will fly to CLE. I am picking her up in Detroit and we will both fly back from CLE. (the CLE thing is so we can squeeze in a visit to Grandma while in the midwest.) So far, we've "spent" 27,000 points for these two round-trip flights and DH's account still has 23,000 miles in it- and mine is untouched! :woohoo:

In reality, we paid a total of $319 for two of us to fly round-trip for DD to go to her dance intensive and then both of us to visit Grandma. This includes RT gas and tolls for two trips to MHT :drive:, parking for when I fly, SW's $69 credit card annual fee, and the $5 per leg security fee. Also includes 2 free bags each, which is a bonus as DD had to take towels, sheets, blanket, etc with her. The $319 is cheaper than ONE rt airfare from BGR would have been, and that's just airfare, not counting baggage fees. This was a seriously good deal for us, and we still have 83,000 points to use!!

Also... airfare was higher when I made the original reservations, and dropped over the intervening weeks. I made all the changes to our itineraries online as the prices dropped, and was never charged a fee. We ended up "earning back" about 15,000 points as airfare came down. Yes, I had to monitor the website, but I'll do that to get the points back; these 15,000 points will pay for a one-way fare to California!! :cool1:

(can you tell I'm excited... and love the smilies??)
