I have never flown Southwest before and was hoping someone could help answer my questions. I booked airfare for this December and due to some unforeseen circumstances we may have to postpone the trip.

I purchased the tickets on June 4. The problem is we won't be able to go till June 1st and returning June 15. So my first question is does the travel have to be completed before June 4 so that we don't lose any money? or does the tickets need to be booked by June 4?

If it is that the travel must be completed by June 4 will they extend the year by11 days? Thank you for any help.

Thats a great question!! I know the travel has to take place before June 4th so for the first leg of the trip you will be fine but I'm not sure on the second. When you go to book your tickets they will ask for any travel funds (this is what your credit is) and you will input your old confirmation number to access those funds. I would call and find out for sure on the second half of the trip. Sorry I couldn't be more help!!

They will extend credits for six months beyond the expiration date for a charge of $50 per ticket, but they won't do it for you until you actually pass the expiration date. In this case the OP might have to book the outbound a return flights separately in order to be able to use the credit. The credits will be good for a flight on June 1, but not for any flights after June 4. That may mean you lose some of the credit but at least you won't lose all of it.

**Update** Reported this year = 2012

Price to Extend Expiration Date = $75.00

Thank you everyone for the replies. I had that feeling that was going to be the case. I will have to decide if a sooner date will work or take the 75.00 per ticket penalty.
