Southwest boarding question

I've been trying to figure this out and I thought someone on here would probably know the answer.

We will be flying southwest in Dec. It will be me, my husband, my mom and five kids (1,3,4,6, and 8).

Our six year old has an autism service dog that will be flying with us. Am I correct in assuming service dogs board first? If so, will it be our whole party or just my son, the dog, and a parent?

If it is just the dog, my son, and one of us, will the rest of the family board between groups a and b since the other 3 kids are under 4? Will they make one adult stay back with the 8 year old and make one adult take all three younger kids?

I just want to make sure I have it right. I know they have the new $10 boarding but if everyone would board before the b group I don't need to pay the extra $160 dollars. Thanks so much for any info you can give me!

That gets complicated. I would call SWA and ask what their policy would be depending on what city you were flying out of. Yes, unfortunately, it can vary by city and gate agent.

The last time I encountered this (preboard for special needs) it was the child with the immediate family members that were allowed to board. In this case, everyone but your mom. I would probably call just to verify though so you can be prepared in advance. Thanks.
