We did out checkin for Southwest yesterday for a flight this afternoon. My DH got B4, oldest DS14 got B8 while DD11, youngest DS8 and I got B 48-50. Do you think we will be able to find seats together? We would be happy with 2 and 3 together. Our plan is for DH and oldest DS to head toward the back of the plane and try to get two rows across from each other. What do you think?

As one SW flight attendant stated on one of my flights from Vegas to SDF, that A usually means Aisle, B - window, and C - Center. I'm sure you all can find seats together in the rear of the plane. I think each group goes up to 60?

But like you said going to the back will be your best bet since the front will more than likely be packed.

We had B 44-50 for our group at Christmas and we got seats together in the center of the plane - you'll be fine!

Thanks for the reassurances. We have flown Southwest many times but these are the highest numbers we have ever gotten when checking in at 24 hours.

That's odd that the seating numbers are that far apart...however you should be fine...just have your family members that board first find seats for you.

OP -Did you check each person in individually? I made that mistake once - checked-in myself before I realized you can do it as a group for all your seats.

We did have to check in each one of us individually. We were using free RR tickets so each of us had our own confirmation number. That is a downside to RR tickets but they are still so very worth it :)

Those numbers should be fine....but unless I have A's I always prepare my kids that we MIGHT not be right next to each other - just in case it ends up that way. A small chance, but definitely a chance. Depending how many family boarding people and how big the plane is.

January of 2010 we got B46 to 49 for our party of 4. We all sat 2+2 about half way back in the plane.

Here's an idea...

DH & DS(14) get on, take an aisle & window seat in the same row. When it's time for the rest of you to board, look for three seats together. If you find some, great. But if not...

DH gets up, DD & DS(11) sit with DS(14). You & DH sit elsewhere. The kids are all sitting together and (seem) old enough to be able to handle it. If you & DH can find a pair of seats together, great! Enjoy the flight without the kids. lol

Other people don't like it, but so far Southwest allows you to save seats for others (which makes no sense, since then just one person can buy the $10 seating), so just make sure those getting on early, have something to save the seats with.

You can try, and if nobody complains you might get away with it, BUT if you're saving a seat that another passenger wants the FA will make you give it up.

You can? Please say how? I've never noticed a group option...

Well it's not really a group option, you just have to mark the checkbox for each person as long as they are all on the same order and check everyone in.

Normally I would have agreed with everyone of you, BUT! On 2/16 We flew from Buffalo to MCO. I sat next to a women whose group of 7 had boarding #'s in the mid B's and there were only single seats left. I think the problem was a very large family boarding group, that of course boards before the B's.:confused3

Yeah, I forgot about the family boarding after the A's.

We've been on several flights where seats were being saved, and while there were mumblings among the passengers (and once a full fleged argument, and the person standing was told to find another seat or they would not be able to stay on the flight), they have never made them give them up. It's discussed a lot on the SW forums, and some have written to SW and been told at this time it is allowed. Have you actually seen that happen, where a FA has made someone give up a seat? I don't get (or really care) why it's allowed, but it surely appears to be.

I've never had to worry about it, because we have, up til now always gotten seats together, even with high B's, when we were unable to get on line close to 24 hours before our flight.

I've seen FA's saving seats in the back for families that have been late..I assume they knew they were on a connection and the FA wanted to make sure they could sit together.

OP Here - Just thought I'd share our experience. My husband and oldest DS boarded in their spots. The each took a row right across from each other, about 2/3 of the way back. When the rest of us boarded we headed back to where they were. My daughter and I took the window and middle seat on one side and the three boys sat together on the other. No problem :)
