Southwest availability

Southwest has their schedule opened for travel until 9/28 as of right now. On 2/20 they are supposed to open the schedule for travel until 11/2. Does anyone know why they only extend it for a month at at time?? It's frustrating when other carriers make their schedule available 11 months in advance.

The flip side of the issue is that the legacy carriers who do make flights available 330 days in advance also tend to make changes to their schedules. If you're booking that far out you could see up to four schedule changes--some minor, some major--before you actually fly.

SWA, on the other hand, almost never makes changes to their schedule after they open their dates for booking.

SWY usually releases about two months of dates at a time, although exceptions are not uncommon, and they have stretched how far in advance they generally open. For a complete list of historical release dates ging back to 2005, click here.
