My parents will be coming home on thursday from phoenix on southwest. The weatherman is predicting snow in my area. I have never encountered this since I only travel in summer and my parents don't travel much. If the airport is closed in my area, do they try and get on another later flight by standby. What happens if they have to wait another day. Will they have to pay more for the ticket. Any guidance would be appreciated.

They will not have to pay more for transportation; they would simply (re)use their existing tickets. But they would have to take care of any accommodations etc. themselves while waiting for another plane.

The weather will be gorgeous here on Thursday, your parents probabaly won't want to come home anyway! ;)

On our recent trip, we heard that home was expecting a MAJOR snowstorm on the night we were to fly home. We called SW the day before and they were very helpful in rescheduling our flight. We got an earlier flight on the same day, but beat the snowstorm - our flight was the last into PHL before they closed the airport! No additional charges or anything.

Once the airlines are SURE of the weather in a given area during a given period (weather being as unpredictable as it is, just look at the no-storm in New England when the Mid-Atlantic states were getting hammered a couple of weeks ago), they will gladly work with affected passengers to change flights at no charge.
