Has anyone had any problems with the ME on SW out of Albany (NY) when coming into MCO? I have been told that I Do have to get my luggage and that I Don't have to get it. When I flew out of Islip last year I had no problems. Any help? Thanks

Here are the facts about DME. On arrival at MCO, EVERYONE gets the free and automatic luggage handling/delivery, regardless of airline, regardless of originating city. That is FACT.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET YOUR OWN LUGGAGE AT MCO.

Whoever told you you'd need to get your own luggage was just wrong wrong wrong.

DME has nothing to do with whatever city you are flying in from. DME is a creature of Orlando International Airport. The luggage handlers and the Disney people don't really know and definitely don't care where you flew in from.

On the way BACK to MCO from your Disney resort at the end of your vacation, you WILL need to bring your own luggage back to the airport (the DME driver will load it under the bus for you).

Enjoy your vacation!

We are flying out of Islip next month for our trip :)

DME will take care of your luggage. From what they told me yesterday (after making my DH's ressies), there is a separate "truck" that goes to the planes and takes off all the luggage that have the yellow DME tags on it. They are then separated into groups by resort then placed on the appropriate DME bus. I was also told that your luggage may not be on the same bus you depart on. Hence the 2-3 hour turn-around-time before receiving your luggage.

Thanks! I didn't know that! That's going to be interesting and fun with our DS4

Actually, yellow-tagged, inbound luggage does not go onto a DME bus. The luggage is delivered to Disney resorts on trucks.

There are various steps that require handling — such as unloading from the aircraft, sorting at the airport, loading on a truck, delivery to the resorts, unloading at the resorts, and finally delivery to the guests' rooms — so it takes longer for the luggage to make it to the room than for the guest.

You could be boarding a DME motorcoach while the baggage handlers are still pulling the bags off the aircraft. Also, at your resort, bell services can get backed up several hours, as the bellmen assist other guests (including those who are not using DME, and expect immediate service).

Disney says the luggage may take up to 3 hours to be delivered, so they recommend packing a carry-on bag with essential items. In reality, it can take more than 3 hours. The carry-on is a very good idea. You don't have to be in the room when the luggage is delivered because Disney takes care of the inbound bellman gratuity.

Thanks for clarification :). I assumed the DME rep meant those little trucks that take the luggage off the planes to the luggage area :teeth: .

DH and I figured on the delay with luggage. We had that experience on the Alaska cruise we took in 2001 (bc, before child).
