I am flying out of Islip, Long Island on Nov. 10. My brother and his 6 year old twins are flying out of Albany the same time. We have our tickets. Life has changed, and now my brother and the kids need to fly out of Islip too. I just went to try to change their flight (yes, seats are available), but the tickets will now cost him $762 more total than before. WAY more than I paid for my original ticket. Can any of you experience Southwest folks tell me if there is any hope that the flights may drop again?? Or, is this the best we can expect to do??? Thank you!

Well they will give you a credit for future travel if the price drops, so I would book now if you need the flights and watch for lower fares. That seems safer than just hoping prices go down and not booking because what if they never do?

There is no way to tell, really. That is a lot though, over $200 per person more. Wow.

Even if you do change, then the price drops, and you get a credit, do you need to fly SW in the next year where you will be able to use the credit? And, that credit is only good for the person who was flying (so it can only be used by your brother and his kids each and they cannot combine them).

I personally would wait just a little while. I would check midweek (start Mondays, and end Thursdays) since fares tend to go down midweek then back up on the weekends generally.

Good luck!
