Has anyone expereince flying on Southwest and brought their wedding dress on the plane with them? Were the flight attendants helpful, etc.

What was your experience?? :confused3

Hello!

I don't have an answer for you, but I think you should definitely try to take your dress onboard!

There is the infamous episode on "Airline" when the Southwest baggage car ran over a woman's wedding dress and TOTALLY ruined it!! Take it on the plane!!!!! :thumbsup2

i had to buy a seat for my dress..one way 65$$ they said there is nowhere to hang a dress

I had a wonderful experience on SWA with my gown. When I walked on the plane I asked the flight attendant what my best option with it was. She asked if it was a wedding dress and I said that it was. The pilot overheard and said "give it to me." It rode in the cockpit with the pilot!

Of course, I wouldn't expect this from most crews, but the SWA people are just wonderful and will help you out-if they can.

I am totally bringing it onboard with me, I'm not even trusting my grandparents to drive it down, b/c god knows, they may turn back!!!

I'm just hoping to get a really nice & friendly flight attd. to help me out!

I didn’t fly on SWA but did fly on another airline. I made sure to take my dress with me as a carry-on item.

With my dress inside its garmet bag, I simply rolled it up and placed it inside a carry-on bag: click here. I did this because I wanted to be certain that my gown wouldn’t be soiled during the two flights that I had to take from the West Coast to the East Coast. I wrote about this in my (as yet unfinished) trip report: click here and look for my post entitled, “A Girl And Her Carry-On Bag’s Magical Journey Begins.”

It is definitely a little nerve-wracking traveling with such an important piece of clothing. ;)

We just got home from our wedding and flew Southwest. As soon as they saw that it was a wedding dress, they reserved an overhead bin for it. I suggest you go online within 24 hours of your flight and do a pre-check in so that you get "A" on your ticket. Better chance to get your own bin! Good luck!

We flew Northwest, but I was also worried about what to do with the dress. I carried it with me in the white David's bridal bag. Everyone recognized it as a wedding gown and we got lots of congratulations. We had connecting flights so two different experiences. On the first flight out of OKC the flight attendents hung it in the small closet where they hang their jackets. On the second flight they gently folded it and put it in the largest overhead. It arrived with me in excellent condition. On the way home I put it in a garment bag and checked it, the wedding was over!!! :yay:

I shipped my dress and DD's dress via UPS ground (with insurance) on Thursday, 4/20 to Carolyn Allen's Bridal in Orlando--cost $19.04. They arrived at the bridal shop on 4/24 and they steamed the dresses and delivered them to the Beach Club with our tuxes on 4/29. Our vow renewal was 5/1.
